flip flopping blog software

After a short time away from Movable Type and a somewhat less that satisfactory run with WordPress we are now paying customers of Six Apart and running on MT 3.11.

Please be patient for a day or so while we re-import the comments from recent entries. Thanks!!

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly was it that turned you guys off of WordPress?

Posted by: Steven Canfield on September 8, 2004 2:59 PM

Steven, lack of a good way to deal with spam that didn't involve castrating the features of WP.

Also, so very many third party blog apps don't work with anything but MT. And uhmmm... Gruber too, I guess.

At least that is my reasons.

Pfft @ Gruber. A man who has nothing better to do with his life than complain.

Welcome back to the light side, guys.

I too like this format a bit better.

So MT-Blacklist was the reason you switched back? Or just MT's built-in comment throttling?

Posted by: John Gruber on September 9, 2004 6:08 AM

John: _one_ of the reasons. While WordPress is nice and hackable, we suddenly found out we still like the familiar MT interface and features more. MT-Blacklist is excellent though -- I think I own Jay a bottle of vodka or something else he'd like to drink up. ;)

Guys, look also at nanoblogger . Great stuff if you can handle with Terminal..

Geez, you guys turned me on to WordPress, only to abandon it later. Ha ha.

Now I may be forced to return to MovableType or some other blog package because my host changed something that's killed WordPress for me. *sigh*

"very many third party blog apps don't work with anything but MT."

Actually, WordPress' XMLRPC implementation supports the MovableType API, so this comment is not really correct, IMHO.

What comment throttling in MT?

Posted by: MT-Newbie on September 13, 2004 5:45 AM

I'd be curious to know what sort of comment spam you were getting and what aspect of comment management you would like to see improved.

One prob we had in 1.2 was we were catching most every spam that came through, but even though they weren't on the site you still had to go and delete them and for people who didn't use the mass-edit interface that could be clunky. In 1.3 we've fixed up the moderation screen to make it much easier to delete a lot of stuff at once from the moderation screen. We've also added retroactive moderation and emergent registration/whitelisting.

being new to this blogging thing, i decided to evaluate freely available blog software for my own (new) blog and settled on bBlog, and i'm happy with what it is.

good luck with MT :)

I adapted a phpclasses.org class for Captchas on the wordpress comments page, FYI... 100% success rate so far...
