My Software Top 7

Well, you asked for the other software we like, and here's a partial list in no particular order of such things for me...

- Can Combine Icons - use it all the time to make icons for the installers and disk images;
- AutoOpen - small but useful tool that makes the DMG open the particular window when mounting;
- NetNewsWire - simply the best RSS reader for blog junkies like me;
- Completion Dictionary - a ProjectBuilder plugin that adds nice autocompletion features to it;
- Frogblast - very nifty Hotline client;
- Proteus - nice IM client;
- Mozilla - my browser of choice;
- Microsoft Entourage - email client;

As for other utilities I don't use but that are worth mentioning:

- LaunchBar: this looks damn nice, except for two minor things: cmd+space is taken by a keyboard switch shortcut on my Mac and I can't think of some other as nice shortcut; also I guess I am more of a mouse man - keyboard typing is not for me, trying to avoid it as much as possible. *grin*
- CandyBar: replaces your system icons - should be heaven for icon customization fans - again, don't use it because I prefer standard icons.

I think other unsane guys will post their software tops sooner or later, if they'll want...

Excellent list. All super Apps/Utilities. I have taken to switching between Chimera, Mozilla and MSIE for browser, though I would stay in Chimera if possible. I love the adherence to simplicity, working exactly the way a browser should, without all the extra bloat. Sometimes for functionality issues, I have to switch to Mozilla, which is great but massively bloated, almost like Netscape. And for the 1 or 2 sites that give trouble to both of those, I fall back on Explorer. It was great back in the day, but it's time has definitely come.

I have been using NetNewsWire constantly for the last several weeks. Good lord I love RSS feeds.

I have also dumped entourage (Until MS prove themselves again, I will be trying to get rid of all their apps on my computer) in favor of Apple's Mail. It needs some help too, but it works for my requirements.

I'm also in love with Weatherpop, MenuCalendar, iAddressX, and Diablotin.

Duh, I totally forgot about WeatherPop =)

As for Chimera, it shows some promise, but for me, it's too pre-release at the moment to use it as a full-time browser. =)

Chalk me down as a fan of Meteorologist, now that WeatherPop has gone to a really poor data source that shows it raining when it's not, and a nice bright happy sun icon at 10:00 pm at night. =-(

On the other hand, though, if you're looking for a really nice programmable e-mail client and don't want to buy the Office suite for Entourage, try Bare Bones' Mailsmith. BBEdit functionality in your mailclient, and lots of AppleScript-y goodness. Yum.
