Is this just me, or the Apple Aperture QuickTour features menu feedback sounds? ;) Which either means:
- These sounds were added at the presentation editing stage to highlight the process of selecting menu items
- Apple has added menu feedback sounds to Aperture
- Someone at Apple who did the movie is using our own Xounds
Take your guess!
Seriously, Apple should bring the interface sounds back, many people miss them (according to our sales figures, at least). Given that some sounds are in already ("Play user interface sound effects" in the Sounds preference pane), why not add in the rest? And hey, if Apple wants, we can help! ;)
What's your take on this?

Heh, I mailed off almost the exact same comments to John Gruber a few hours ago... interesting to say the least :)
Posted by: Will Croft on October 20, 2005 12:15 AMI am hoping it was #1 or #3 because I am one of those people who hated interface sounds. Of course I don't have to worry about since my iBook is way below the minimum system requirements anyway. The application does look pretty cool though.
Posted by: Twist on October 20, 2005 6:20 AMApple knows cool when they see it or in this case hear it. I'll bet Aperture has the sounds built-in; either way Aperture has a beautiful interface. Apple is moving more and more toward the "feedback" experience...something Unsanity has been accomplishing since its inception.
Rosyna, I tried to crash the beta of MenuMaster with CS2 and others, but to no avail. See, I do try to participate. ;)
Posted by: CREB on October 20, 2005 10:27 AMWikipedia :
Haxie is a term in computing for a hack specifically designed for use with the Mac OS X operating system. Haxies typically offer small interface tweaks to the system or existing programs. The term was coined by computer software company Unsanity, and is a blend word derived from "hack" and "Mac OS X". Unsanity often uses it to refer to "hacks" that are specifically designed for use with its Application Enhancer (APE) software. Nowdays, most "hack"-related products for Mac OS X are considered "haxies", even though not all are produced by Unsanity.
Posted by: CREB on October 20, 2005 11:33 AMDoes anyone recognise the soundset? I quite like it and wantses a copy for my own...
Posted by: Tony Arnold on October 21, 2005 3:35 AMPersonally I turn off ALL sounds on any computer I use. That beep from Terminal was driving me nuts until I found how to turn it off.
Posted by: Ken on October 21, 2005 7:35 AMall you weirdos who like sounds are free to enjoy them all you want. Yes, there are times i like feedback, but in general i run a silent system. I don't like to be surprised by unneeded noise late at night or to get attention on a plane.
So long as I can turn the sounds off, they should be everywhere, signifying many things.
Posted by: Saint on October 22, 2005 11:59 AMInterface sounds turned off since 15 years. Visual feedback is way enough for any use.
Of course it's another story if you are cooking and chatting at the same time.
Posted by: Romain on October 25, 2005 4:54 AMYup.
All sounds off all the time.
This isn't the first time I've encountered sounds in Apple movie.
Final Cut Studio tutorial has them all over the place.
Get really annoying really quickly!
