I see that Xounds 2.0 is out. I was a big fan of the Interface sounds in Mac OS 9, and I used Xounds for...[Read More]

I'd really like to use the OS 9 Platinum sounds, but I don't have OS 9 installed. Is it possible to get them from the OS 9 CD?

Awesome update, as usual. Being able to assign specific sounds to actions is marvelous. Though, just out of curiosity, what happened to the volume sliders? I sort of liked those. Especially since some of the Platinum Sounds are a little bit too loud; I had 1.4 tweaked to make menu scrolling much quieter.

Nice update. However, we lost the sound for MenuRelease in the process. Any idea if it can be brought back?

Just another note: seems that the "drop-stuff-in-trash" sound that was an OSX default is now gone.

still no sounds for scrollbars or tabs ?
there are lots of other areas that are still in silent movie land (compared to os9)

i personally would rather these widgets included rather than a ui update.

still, good to see an update anyway :)

thanks for the feedback folks - we'll try to fix/add the things mentioned in a 2.0.1 in the not-too-distant future.

adamh - ah! your comment pains me! "a ui update"...I hope you get a chance to compare 1.4 and 2.0 a bit more ;) 2.0 is a complete rewrite with many additional features.

as always, thanks for your support and general QualityOfUser-ness™ :)

Arg - my kingdom for the return of volume controls. Some of the sounds are just way too loud.

Update is great - and maybe is setting up for something even greater - but I can't believe we still don't have a utility on OSX for RANDOM BEEP SOUNDS! I have had them since 1985. They have been sorely missed over the last two years.

Lovin' Xounds 2. For the most part!

There's one improvement I'd like to see:

You know how, in Mac OS X's Sound prefpane, in the Sound Effects tab, there's a popup called "Play sound effects and alerts through:", and it gives you the choice of "Selected sound output device", or "Built-in audio controller", or, whatever other device you might have, for example "iMic USB audio system"?

Well. It would be *smashing* if Xounds (and WindowShade) respected this setting. So... for example, I have my iTunes playing music through the iMic USB audio out, to some external speakers in the next room. Well, I have the aforementioned popup set to "Built-in audio controller" so that system alert beeps won't play on those external speakers -- it would be nice if Xounds played nice by those rules, as well. I.e., so Xounds' sounds are seen by the OS as, yep, sound effects (which in fact, they are). So they'll play on the built-in speakers, not get amplified into the next room where the music is playing.

Doable in the next minor rev? I'd love to know.

Thanks.

I have installed xounds 2.1 beta and it worked great (panther 10.3.1) till a certain point of kernel panic I am not able to reconstruct. After that and various deinstallations and new installations no more sound. Only if I create a new user, everything is fine again. Even the september version xounds 2.0 works great. I created several testusers and always the same positive resault. Only the one i installed it first, will not work. I suppose it has something to do with this specific user library, baut I dont know what file/ folder oit could be. Who can help a soundaddictive macuser (since 1984)?? Thanx!

I have installed XOUNDS latest Update 2.1 on my Power Mac G4 1,25 GHZ Dual running with OS 10.3.2 Panther in order to have a Demo of this fine tool.
(Application Enhancer has been installed prior to XOUNDS)
Within the PrefPane I activated XOUNDS and assigned sounds from imported Soundset to the available actions, tested all of them and they were working fine.
After the recommended restart none of the sounds assigned were working - it seemed like XOUNDS has never been installed or activated. But it was activated.
Why XOUNDS is not working on my machine - are there some tricky things to bear in mind?
I believed that I did the installation and the set-up in the Prefpane in the right way.
This really nice software would be worth it's low price since I still love the missing Platinum Sounds - but only if working without problems.
Thanks for any helpful tips or recommendations.
