WSX 4 Final
Thanks much to all who helped test WindowShade X 4.0! The final version has been posted today, so those who were not comfortable playing with a beta, grab the final and let us know how it works for you. Do you like the new features? ![]() Do you like the interface for adding custom shortcuts to invoke WSX? (modeled after System Prefs->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard Shortcuts) Got a better idea? Grab it here: Trackback Pings: TrackBack URL for this entry: Related:

This is the best WSX edition yet! Also, why does ShapeShifter no longer allow you to go uppermost point of the right-hand corner, click and activate Spotlight? The Installer window that comes up when the .dmg opens to install Labels X is beautifully proportioned with a little written data at the bottom. Why aren't all Unsanity's haxies like this? Posted by: CREB on July 15, 2005 11:05 AMThanks for the feedback CREB. We'll take a look at the SS issue... As for the installer, we've been working on finding a standard look&feel to settle on across our product line. So we'll add a vote for that format! Posted by: Brian on July 15, 2005 12:38 PMI love WSX. Everytime I sit down at a Mac without it I think how it should have been built-in because that is how much I use it. One of my favorite features is the ability to make windows transparent. I came across a screenshot from Windows recently that sort of took this idea to another level though. Check it out here http://www.deviantart.com/view/20415408/ Do you think it would be possible to do something like that in WSX (the way they fade to transparent just to make sure we are on the same page)? Posted by: Twist on July 16, 2005 12:53 AMThis is a great version. I love having the freedom to choose key combinations that I will remember, especially double key-somethings. I don't know if this is related, but soon after installation, the OS was reporting the hard drive to be full. I eventually found that a fontcard file (I used OmniDisksweeper to find it) was 12.0 Gb!!! All seems well after deleting it and running every fix-it routine I could think of. Posted by: Interstitial on July 16, 2005 7:02 AMBrian, reporting in for duty, sir. Glitches in Safari: Make Floating Window command executed. However, when undoing said window from floating status, I can no longer make the same window floating again. In fact, I can assign no open Safari window floating status unless I completely quit Safari and launch Safari anew. BTW, whoever came up with the badge idea--A+. SafariStand: When assigning any window to floating status, unable to use SafariStands' Key Action/Automate the Find Function (I live by this feature while in Safari) on any window open in Safari. Posted by: CREB on July 16, 2005 10:16 AMI would use WSX a lot more often if there were more commands for dealing with minimize in place. For instance, I would like the option to maximize all MIP windows at once. It would also be nice to auto maximize a window when it gets focus by switching to the window using the dock or "Window" menu. I would also like the option to maximize If I switch to an application (command-tab) that only has one window open. As it stands it seems like the minimize in place function is only half finished. Posted by: neohx_7 on July 16, 2005 6:46 PMnow when i type 'open' in the terminal i get: simon: Yeah, me too. It also adds this for countless other processes, like DashboardClient etc. Very annoying. Posted by: Brad Brooks on July 18, 2005 3:15 AMDoesn't work for me at all. Gives a blank Pref Pane on both my Macs and console shows messages like: 2005-07-18 22:16:26.263 System Preferences[1690] *** -[NSCFString replaceCharactersInRange:withString:]: Range or index out of bounds Is version 3.6 still available? Posted by: EE on July 18, 2005 1:20 PMOh, and Mail crashed. Guess what it shows.... Thread 0 Crashed: If you are dutch or chinese and the preference pane won't load, open the Library/PreferencePanes/ in the finder, right click on the WSX preference pane and choose "Show Package Contents". Open the Contents, then Resources directory. Delete either Dutch.lproj or zh_TW.lproj. Depending on what you are.... Posted by: Rosyna on July 18, 2005 1:25 PMI've got the same problem ad Brad and Simon above. Same "Welcome to the WSX:Carbon" thing in Terminal happening here. The Terminal still seems to work and all (that is, the entered Terminal commands are accomplished), but for whatever reason this seems to be outputted when issuing new commands. Posted by: Bakuryuuha on July 21, 2005 5:16 PMTo prevent getting e-mailed with the "Welcome to the WSX" from cron jobs, just add >& /dev/null to the end of the line in your cron tab. This assumes the commands won't ever have any other output that you want to actually be notified of, of course. Posted by: Jerry Kindall on July 25, 2005 9:09 AMPlease, for the love of God, we need a fix for the "Welcome to the WSX:Carbon" spam! Please! It's driving me to drink! Well, I am not drinking quite yet but it is annoying. Anyhow, if you want to avoid the E-mail for this message but still allow for other valid cron responses to E-mail, append: 2>&1 | grep -v "Welcome to" (or the full string if you want) instead of >&/dev/null to your command in cron. That will strip that line from output. I love WSX (I think I bought my first copy the day 1.0 was released), but lately I've been wanting to get more out of it. For example I'd love it if it were tied in with Expose so that when I minimize all windows the minimized windows get exposéd as well. Any chance of something like this happening sometime?
