I saw some cool potential in your WindowShade X program. when setting the window to transparent, I was surprised that the window was still active and received mouse actions. but the whole point of minimizing is to temporarily DISMISS the window. is there a way to make the window transparent to the eye and invisible to the mouse? you could make a marked change in OS usability if the window would keep updating (email and buddy lists for instance) but would be inactive to the mouse. to make that window active, double click the title. I?m looking forward to seeing this approach to layering information like an onion, as opposed to the conventional window method. have anything like this planned for a future release? unsanity is great, does apple ever talk to you? I have a couple questions. I have read in a few places that Windowshade X considerably slows down OS X. Is this true? Also what exactly is the difference between 'comments' and 'Talkback'? They looks about the same to me. Thanks. All the other prefpanes I have installed just show up, and then a second or two after the SysPrefs are open, the APE manager jumps everything over to the right and shows up. Oddddd... Posted by: Dan on January 28, 2003 1:52 PMYeah! It does it here too! And if there's already seven PrefPanes the last one gets knocked down to the second column but the window doesn't resize! It puts a scrollbar there! And why aren't WindowShades and Labels integrated into the APE Manager? I was so sure you'd do it THIS time with the rewrite! Posted by: Jason Anderson on January 28, 2003 4:05 PMI notice the same behaviour w/ the delay of APE. As for the scrolling bar its just a weird OS X thing. It completely forces me to have 7 or 9 pref Panes. I can;t stand that 2 second delay it takes to realize each time that I have to scroll. Posted by: Alexis on January 28, 2003 7:36 PMThe APE manager and such works perfect here, not a single delay or sizing issues within System Prefs...odd! Posted by: Rickey Henderson on January 28, 2003 7:54 PMRe: the preference pane issue; try using the utility "Prefling" in your dock--it lets you click and hold to select a pref pane directly, rather than having to wait for the main prefs selection screen to open/resize/whatever. Posted by: brian w on January 28, 2003 8:57 PMWell, I just setup an account for my girlfriend, and since she wants access to a lot of the prefpanes I use, I moved all of em from ~/Library/PreferencePanes/ to /Library/PreferencePanes/ ... APE Manager was installed in /Library/PreferencePanes/ (not in my ~/), so it shouldn't of mattered, but now that they're all in one place theres no delay when SysPrefs loads! I guess it had sumfin to do with having to load from 2 spots? Posted by: Dan on January 29, 2003 1:15 AMWow, Miguel has a fantastic suggestion. "I saw some cool potential in your WindowShade X program. when setting the window to transparent, I was surprised that the window was still active and received mouse actions. but the whole point of minimizing is to temporarily DISMISS the window. is there a way to make the window transparent to the eye and invisible to the mouse?" I think this would be an absolutely amazing feature of the program. I would love to hear what Unsanity thinks about this. Posted by: Matt Martinez on February 5, 2003 2:26 AMHi I think Unsanity does a great job and WindowshadeX is a absolute must have. Anyway would it be possible to implement a feature/preference into a future revsion that would make an inactive window transparent (with all the user definability, ie percentage and on/off choices etc) along with the current ability to change shadow settings. That way it would make it even easier to distinguish the front most window. I know of a haxie out there (Focus Layer I think) that goes someway to make the front window highlighted as such but to me it is ungainly, I'm sure Unsanity could go a lot better and implement this in WindowshadeX. On the update to APE, I'm sure that my System Preferences open much faster now with this release (1.3). ;-) Cheers Richard Posted by: Richard Claridge on June 4, 2003 12:06 AMKeep comments on topic.
