We're Final

A quick update. Thanks for your excellent feedback and testing, we've released final versions of WindowShade X 4.1, FruitMenu 3.6.2 and Application Enhancer 2.0.2. All of these are free upgrades, of course.

The rest of the haxies are coming soon, too. ;D Ya, rly.

Coming tomorrow: a weird story about burning a CD on a MacBook Pro.

Digg This!

4.1 Windowshade does not work with Firefox 2.0; at least on my system. Thanks.

I need to add that Apple Mail, iTunes, Apple System Preferences, and iPhoto do not work under this release either. Sorry.

Posted by: F451 on November 3, 2006 12:49 PM

@F451

I have tried 4.1 with every app possible running on 2 different macs and OSx86 box and every single one works fine.

I want to thank you guys again for removing hardware restrictions! thank you!

I don't know if it's just me, but it appears APE is hogging huge amounts of memory even without any haxies actively running (I have SS and Windowshade, but I already uninstalled Windowshade to figure out the memory leak and SS was disabled). As soon as I uninstalled it, memory usage returned to normal. AFAIK, this wasn't the case with the beta version. Any explanations? I really hope to start using haxies again, though. Been a long time since I haven't. ;) FYI, I'm on an iMac Intel 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 10.4.8.

Slava,

Any chance of acquiring an older version of WindowShade X as I have a PPC, and have no need for the Intel version? Thanks.

Posted by: F451 on November 3, 2006 3:03 PM

pxl, there were no changes between the APE 2.0.2 beta and the APE 2.0.2 final. In fact, we had the 2.0.2 final all ready and had to back version it to the beta when we released WSX 4.1b4.

I don't know exactly what the problem is. I have been able to use WindowShade on only Finder and System Preferences only after unchecking Double Click Title Bar Minimizes in the appearance prefpane, and then rechecking it. No other apps work. I am using MBP 2.116Ghz Core Duo.

On a G4 Pb, everything is working fine and no apparent memory seepage.

Yeah! Hooray! Thank you!
I guess it's time you can remove this message from the Windowshade page ;)
"WindowShade X is not yet compatible with Intel-based Macs."

Posted by: r-t-p on November 4, 2006 1:26 PM

Nice to see you guys are still working on Intel versions. You may want to update your compatibility chart page and the WindowShade X page...they both list that it is not compatible with Intel-Macs.

Any word on Mighty Mouse (or even a beta)?

Great job, you've now almost completely broken WindowShadeX on my Intel MacBook for almost all my apps - BonEcho doesn't work with it, Mail.app doesn't work with it, etc. These all worked fine with the last RC release.

What's with you people? You can't seem to get ShapeShifter to work without hosing Rosetta, and now you break things between RC releases and GA code?

I buy your commercial products, and would gladly donate for WindowShadeX, -if it worked-. But since you've now hosed it, I have to see if I can somehow downgrade to the earlier rev. Thanks a lot, Unsanity.

Up until this version of WndowShade X and APE, I have never encountered any major issues with Unsanity haxies. During the weekend I sought out what was causing this latest version of WindowShade X to work improperly as several Apple applications refused to cooperate with WindowShade X with some refusing to open or they opened intermittently. I reverted back to an older version of APE through another application that required it (not an Unsanity haxie) and was able to get matters running, but not exactly how they were supposed to run. The final hint came from the latest beta version of Smart Scroll X which refused to run, and in red letters stated that there might be something damaged in the Mac OS System. Taking the hint I reloaded the MacOSXUpd10.4.8PPC update and now all of the Unsanity haxies are functioning properly. It might prove both helpful and informative if the latest version of APE included the same warning as Smart Scroll X?

Same issues, here.

After updating to WindowShadeX 4.1, none of my apps co-operate with the WindowShade settings, apps are only minimizing as default, i.e., to the Dock.

Did an uninstall and then clean install of WindowShadeX 4.1, also, just to test.
Still no juice.

Will try a fix, and post any success.

Finder responds only to have the shadow placement, opacity, windowborder... It does not recognize the "deselected" window state. Therefore, the settings for focused windows are still present when the finder window is not on top.

All other windows work as expected.

I'm having lots of trouble with 4.1 on MacBook Pro, windows not minimizing correctly, PPC Apps not launching. Uninstalled 4.1 and went back to 4.1b3 and haven't had as many problems.

Tom,

I dealt with what you are dealing with, albeit on a PPC. There was no other way around reinstalling the latest OS X updater (at least for me) iin order to run the release version of WindowShade X. Such is the life of people who choose to beta test. And since I load my Mac with all sorts of betas, it's no big deal to either reinstall a system or an update. Another excellent tool to have in your arsenal, if you are going to be running betas, is File Buddy. My all-time favorite tool was DiskTop, by PrairieSoft....long since gone, but File Buddy has still remained with the Mac community.

I don't know what's wrong with Unsanity but they seem to ignore our feedbacks, I've been having problems with WindowShade since the last beta and have sent many emails requesting help from them but all i've got has been some half assed reply, asking me non sence question, they don't even seem to have read my email. I did pay for the programs god damn it!!!!!

and now even with this official release, nothing works for me, it always minimizes to the dock no matter what i do. GET BACK TO ME UNSANITY!!!

I'm having the same issues with APE hogging system resources and periodically grinding everything to a halt on my MacBook Pro. I also have to run the rosetta process DAILY to get Rosetta apps to work. Needless to say, I have uninstalled both APE and windowshadex, and I have started telling other mac users I know to stay away from Unsanity. Sorry guys, you've just got some bum software out there this time.

Posted by: on November 13, 2006 3:42 PM

anonymous, your statements 1 and 2 are somewhat conflicting from a technical standpoint. It's hard for both to be true, being strictly technical. It kind of sounds like you have another significant issue such as a process with out of control memory usage or a cron/launchd job running a little too periodically.

And you don't need to continually press the new button added to the APE Prefpane. No one should have to use it and it only exists there for the future as a "just in case".

Posted by: Rosyna on November 13, 2006 9:11 PM

I'd like to clarify on what I might have stated several comments earlier as "hogging memory." Well, I guess I can't say it's doing that so much as there appears to be less free memory available as a whole. I'm not experiencing system slowdowns, but Activity Monitor seems to report overall higher memory usage after installing APE... and this didn't appear to be the case before, AFAIK. I recently tried reinstalling APE again and I still see higher than average memory usage. With APE, I don't get any more than 50mb of free memory available at a time, even without any other apps running, whereas before I had at least 200mb and more with no apps running... or else maybe I'm missing something? thanks.

How can I uninstall FruitMenu. It expired and I would like to uninstall it.

Hi Jose,

You can go to your System Preference, launch the [Application Enhancer]. From there, you will see a list of applications that requires AE. Select the FruitMenu, then click the minus button at the bottom left corner of the window to remove the application.

Hello there. My Dashboard has suddenly stopped working. It won't start up at all.

Posted by: HappiChappi on June 14, 2007 3:33 PM

I upgraded my PPC Mac from System 10.3.9 to 10.4.10, and now Window Shade X only works on about 20% of my apps. Will this ever be fixed?
