They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here's the whole 2 thousand words for you (warning: in-production screenshots), for two different things that might be coming down to you in the coming month(s):

Definitely needs the app icon, so that its easier to differentiate between windows.
Are the minimized windows going to always be on top? Apple's implementation was like this, and at times it got annoying. Perhaps an option to disable, enable that. I'd rather just click the dock icon to get the windows to pop up.
Posted by: Justin Williams on June 1, 2003 11:44 AMWahoo!!!
Ideals:
Where it automaticly goes to.
Minimize effect into the little thing.
Contextualmenu to close it without unminimizing it.
Unrelated:
The dock needs a contextual menu for minimized windows to close them without unminimizeing them.
Man, the font menus in OS X are in serious need of some haxing. If you put out a haxie that can group font families properly, and provide live previews, that would be sweet.
Posted by: Neil on June 1, 2003 12:59 PMYo Neil,
Guess what: it's there already. Check out FontSight (do a search on MacUpdate). Now if we can only have The Great Haxie People turn their attention to the only non-haxie App they made: Mint Audio. There's a whole army of fans waiting for an update of that one... (including a registered me)
Posted by: Ton on June 1, 2003 2:49 PMHey Ton -
Fontsight does look cool, but:
1. It's $19 US.
2. It's only for Cocoa apps (the screen capture is from Word)
3. It does nothing to the horrible ordering methodology that OS X has for fonts. They're a total mess.
Must... get... beta... release... of... newest... WSX...
Will... register... it... immediately... upon... arrival...
Posted by: Etan on June 1, 2003 10:17 PMIt would be nice to be able to specify when/if the title should be shown; as in: on hover; always; never; when application is in front; etc.
Posted by: simon on June 1, 2003 10:42 PMOh, that's right. It would be nice if there could be an option to highlight/show titles for m.i.p.:ed windows when hovering over the application icon in the dock, or something similar. Also, the window layering mode would be nice to be able to customize, as someone said.
Posted by: simon on June 1, 2003 10:46 PMHey Neil,
You're absolutely right. FontSight is not perfect. Word is pictured here, so we're living in hope. And we all know that Unsanity's haxies come very close to being perfect (for only $10 apiece). Let's wait and see...
Posted by: Ton on June 2, 2003 3:33 AMI think a utility Unsanity should release is a pbdevelopment.plist file killer. Have you noticed how many of these (useless to end user) files get bundled with shareware and freeware?
Do a search on your computer in everywhere for files whose name is "pbdevelopment.plist". You'll be surprised.
It represents a security risk to developers because your user name is in the file (think: if someone knew your IP address, too...). Also, despite the small size of the file, they do add up for people that frequently install stuff from the web.
I even counted 3 of them hidden inside the latest Silk installer app (Unsanity deleted the obvious one immediately inside the contents folder, but there were 3 other bundles in the package that contained this silly file).
I figure I'll end up writing an AppleScript or whatnot to take care of it, but it would be really nice if someone out there (hint, hint) were to release a small application that would delete all pbdevelopment.plist files on the hard drive upon execution (preferably make it automatic so it can be run by cron late at night.
Posted by: Inspired on June 2, 2003 11:45 AMCustomizable size....probably good idea, never thought of it. I think there should be both global and individual, on-the-fly settings, allowing you to increase the sizes of windows as desired (depending on importance, etc). Besides, adds a coolness factor ;)
Transparency: cool! would help solve the clutter problem. Should definitely be in there...
App icon: This is necessary, I dont think it needs to be customizable....
Window Magnification: YES!!! Been wanting this one!!
Window Title: I think it should be there (on mouse hover, of course), but if there's people who don't, well, customization isn't a bad thing.
Other things:
Dock Effects: I want more than suck! All available min/max effects would be preferable here...
Dock Menus: You do have this working for the "windoids", right?
Always on Top: I would like to see settings, both global AND individual for Always on top, Layered, or Always behind (tacked to Desktop)
Dragging Minimized Windows From Dock: I like this one [from the Apple version]. Even though I rarely use it, its a cool effect ;)
Can't think of anything else right now....except....Public Beta soon? ;)
Posted by: Jeff on June 2, 2003 1:39 PMplace of minimization. solaris always minimizes minimized windows on the left side of the monitor, neatly arranging them there. that would be useful.
Posted by: LKM on June 2, 2003 1:57 PMPUH-lease, this isn't really wsX (which I love btw) related, but it's something that if Apple won't do, only the masters at Unsanity could.
I would LOVE to have a haxy to pop the cursor over to the high-lite button. This is such a time saver and something I can do in OS9 that I really miss. M$ had it in their Intelli mouse driver, but got rid of it for X. I don't why, but I truely miss it. Anyone? Any chance?
Not exactly the same but related...
A way to make bigger the application icons for minimized windows in the Dock, well that would RULE!
'Cause some of us run the dock really small, see... but we prefer it to window shades.
Posted by: Matias Duarte on June 3, 2003 11:53 PMHey, if there's an option to minimize to a certain place and have the icons automatically stack there, I'd even pay for it. Unless you wanna make it part of WSX.
Unless Apple decides to implement it in Panther, I am so there.
Posted by: Jason Anderson on June 5, 2003 1:35 AMBump map lighting effects (with an alpha layer).
It'd be nice if you could stack them, and they did something cool when stacked. Then I could have a bucket of Terminal windows!
