sounds and xounds

Our old friend Xounds was getting well, old. :)

So after a complete rewrite we are now in early beta with Xounds 2.

Lots of good silence killing goodness. Take a peek:

Looks great! Too bad I don't use it, I wish I did. ;-)

Ugh, how iSound AV-ish.

If this is the future of OS X, I don't want to come along.

Hey Etan, you're a moron. Shut up.

On another note, Xounds 2 looks great. You guys keep up the great work!

So I take it Panther doesn't have any kind of audio themes?

I have to agree with Etan, something about it doesn't look right... but as with all good things, it will probably just take a little while getting used to. How many liked the flat-screen iMac for the first few minutes (or hours or even days or weeks)?

And of course this will be a free upgrade yes?

Thanks for verifying that with me, D.

Seriously though, perhaps I came of harshly but that looks rather... ugly. Too much wasted space, too much grey, too much white text. It looks like every item is highlighted and that is absolutely unnecessary.

I love you guys, but this is ugly.

Etan,

if you have better suggestions for the GUI, please let me know. The main idea for all that gray bubbles is that the sounds from the bottom table are objects that you can drag to the top table. Since Mail.app and a bunch of others already use this bubbly metaphor, it seemed natural to adopt it.

Andreas,

Of course it will be a free upgrade. We will continue providing the free upgrades on the products we've promised them for the lifetime. =)

I really don't have a better suggestion, and I don't use Mail or any other app that uses this particular metaphor, but I have to say that I think it's rather ugly, too. Not that it matters if it works and is based on Apple's interface, though.

While it seems others are concerned with the GUI I'm curious to know if one can select sounds from different sound sets for different actions or will only sounds from the current sound set work? The teaser window has only Platinum Sounds chosen but the other sound sets appear in the selection pane below.

I for one missed the sounds from the pre-OSX days and happily bought Xounds so this new version is certainly welcome on my computer.

Xounds 2 will allow you to select and assign sounds to actions from any sound set - or just any sound you want. Oh, and save them as a new set also. :)

Cool!

I REALLY like the idea of being able to assign sounds out of any of my soundsets--I started collecting sets with OS 8.5 & have some that you don't find everyday. The idea of blending them into one "perfect" set gives "2" my thumbs-up--as for the"bubbles" --how about being able to assign your own colors? Done in the Apple-accepted colors--of course :)) Red for your "best" sounds--etc...
