Silly Pirates
Matt from Ambrosia Software recently pointed me at an interesting thread at Mac Serial Junkie. Take a small break and read the thread (or at least the first post in it) - I'll wait here. Its amazing how paranoid some of the people are. If only anything is bigger than their paranoia is their lack of clues. =) Why? The post is especially fun to read knowing no haxies "phone home" at all - not even making new connections - with an exception of an installer, which queries our main server for newer version of a haxie (without revealing any info about you, though). Meanwhile, the guy found a lot of IPs with suspicious activity - register.com, etc -- of course, since he did a name lookups on all the suspicious IPs he got, which caused packet traffic with register.com and namesevers at the target locations. Anyway, it's nice to know such organizations as IANA and INTERNIC are working for us. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And bleh, so much of an effort for a $7 utility. I envy you, max_headroom, you obviously got way too much free time. =) Related:

The effort they use to get a pirated serial number could go towards a job and buying the program for the small change it costs. Posted by: Etan on September 18, 2002 9:46 AMi just feel a whole lot better of a psych test i just took after reading these unbeleiveably paranoid, and worse, not too bright, time wasters. Posted by: ravedog on September 18, 2002 3:59 PMSilly pirates indeed! That was the funniest thing I've read in a while. I'm surprised "max" even knows how to use a browser! Posted by: tadpole on September 23, 2002 7:26 PMWell sure, we all could get jobs and pay for our software, but what's the fun in that??? Obtaining a pirated serial# is kinda like sex... sure, you could pay for that too, but isn't it soooo much sweeter when ya get it for free? With all the apps most people have, it would be crazy to buy them all. Thats why people find serials and cracks. Between having Photoshop and Goalive and Pinicle, one can buy a new mac. Why the fuck should people buy software? I bet most mac users that have used these serials and cracks have $2000 worth of software. I say BULLSHIT! Make it for free and for everyone. Thats who its supposed to benifit. Posted by: UN-unsainitor on January 6, 2004 6:22 AMThis is crap that people buy pirated software I have all my apps legal and I am happy because they deserve it. Posted by: Steven on January 6, 2004 8:27 AMPirates Invent and Direct the Industry in many directions! Alot of you would lead us to believe that Tomas Edison invented the light globe. Some others would lead us to believe that James Woodward did, but in fact it was many many centuries before.. Max's words aree marked in time (I have been to MSJ-SerialBox [The new HackUser almost as it was many years ago], his comments and works are always informative and working), (He has saved me much money by carefully allowing me to try many Applications that I have then Purchased for thousands and thousands of dollars) you guys should be thankfull as I am (He hacked one of my applications, I rewarded him and gave him a life-time licence [He occasionally anonymous.to mails me] to offer holes and advice for direction of my software), he is probably one of the forefathers of showing some of us where our holes lie in the software, not to mention he's one of the first to think about phoning home and the future direction of that kind of software, and since his articals about phoning home; when first written and mentioned in WiReD•UK Six years ago! It later made it to MSJ four and a half years or more later, in fact there is now much phone hme software available (I can personally thank Max for pointing me in that direction) when there infact used to be none, except for certain Trojens throughout the years. I like your products but you guys should remember the hacker is what many of you are! Re-creating software or missing items that Apple forgot, or gave up on, for example PowerOnSoftware (Reverse Engineering dosen't have to be mechanical, but even ideas can be revese worked)(I have not seen much from UnSanity that I have not seen before). Hackers - pirates can almost be seen as the concience of some software manufatures who don't have one(I have lost thousands and thousands of $ there too), and alot of other software manufatures best friends providing as Max did many years ago a blue print idea, that is slowly marking the industry as a standard for shareware. With comments like "Silly pirates indeed! That was the funniest thing I've read in a while. I'm surprised "max" even knows how to use a browser!" (He's probably been in your machine a few times) I'm not surprised they are out to get some people, some of these guys are the grand-daddies of the industry and shame on all who knock there karma for providing you with some of your jobs that would not be if it was not for you, {Steven Jobs, best mate is one of the hackers of all time) Max probably increased the awareness of your products by 10 fold.. Simple Minds shalst always see just simple things.. BTW.. I have it on good advice that Max Headroom worked for Apple in the late 80's and coded alot of Localisations for Central Europe, he also was a major european coder for Adobe and help them out with ideas for direction up untill 1998.. He has created and instigated more than probaly most of you could in a couple of life-times. Hans Taddias Max sent these as ideas for software I could make, I just don't do that anymore, just design now so I also added some of my ideas or questions, hopes as well.. PS how about drag-drop support for fruitmenus?? Correction I'm not surprised they are out to get some people, some of these guys are the grand-daddies of the industry and shame on all who knock there karma for providing you with some of your jobs that would not be if it was not for these hackers - serial junkies, {Steven Jobs, best mate is one of the hackers of all time) Max probably increased the awareness of many of your products by 10 fold..
