Currently, none of our products are enabled to work on Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion". The core APE component part works, but that's useless without haxies and it's disabled because of it. So it'll be a few weeks or a few months before we get these into beta.
Some haxies require significant work to "fit-in" with the rest of Lion. As such, haxies that require significant work will not be a free upgrade to registered users of earlier versions. However, the upgrade discount will remain at 33%.
However, every person that uses the 45% discount coupon (LION-PREPARE) on our store will not have to pay again on haxies that will require a upgrade charge. And there will be more than one haxie with an upgrade charge.
We are also tracking the usage of the LION-PREPARE coupon discount code and which products it is applied to. We will release updates/betas in order of the number of times LION-PREPARE was used for each product. VOTE EARLY, VOTE OFTEN!
Again, currently, nothing we sell is enabled to work on Lion.
You can follow the betas for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion progress by following @haxies or @haxiesbeta on the Twitter.
We do not currently have a time table for releases. Our ETA is based solely on how often LION-PREPARE is used as a discount code. LION-PREPARE currently expires on December 1st, 2011.
To get a 45% discount on purchases, Just use coupon code LION-PREPARE (or go directly to https://www.unsanity.com/store/coupon/LION-PREPARE to have it automatically filled entered) when checking out. Final discounted price is shown right before purchase. Do not combine with lower discounts.
45% is a larger number than 33%, so use this discount instead of any upgrade discount for which you may currently be eligible.
On another note, our products will likely never be on MAS unless Apple allows software that has its own installer, software that installs plugins, and software that asks for admin privs to install.. I mean, they allow the Mac OS X Lion installer, Xcode 4.2, and Final Cut Pro X, which violates all of these, but that's ok, it's Apple doing it.
Please to not hesitate to contact us if you have questions. But please note responses may be slow while we work on getting the betas ready for Lion.

I'm not sure I understand the logic behind encouraging users to buy non-Lion compatible software to determine which haxies should be prioritized for Lion compatibility. I already use Lion, so why would I pay for software that isn't compatible yet?
Posted by: Batshua on November 8, 2011 6:47 PMThe primary reason is to gauge support for which haxies people still care about and to fund the work on Lion versions.
It's entirely possible Lion has features that make some of our haxies obsolete, this discount code is designed to track that.
Posted by: Rosyna on November 8, 2011 6:50 PMFirst, delighted there will be Lion versions. However, if you already have the haxies from SL and are just waiting for the Lion version to become available (Fruitmenu and Windowshade, please), why buy them again with the LION-PREPARE discount? It would seem rather pointless if you decide that FM and WS require too much work to upgrade (viz. Shapeshifter and SL). Very willing to support and very happy there will be upgrades.
Posted by: Geoff on November 8, 2011 7:59 PMI waited for the Labels X upgrade before upgrading to Snow Leopard and I'm doing the same with Lion. Here's hoping Labels X is first out the door and I already pre-ordered my two copies ;-)
Posted by: Ted on November 8, 2011 8:17 PMI agree. The SL haxies have been out for years, I've ALREADY paid for the ones I want. Why buy them again?? Plus, with no ETA, I might find better replacements in the meantime, and I don't want to waste my money on something I'm never going to use if it can't get released in a timely manner.
Lion's been out for how many months now, and this is the *first* we're hearing about unsanity's plans to update....
Posted by: Jenny on November 8, 2011 8:50 PMSorry. I don't care how much of a discount you offer. You aren't getting another penny of my money. When I purchased your products you promised "free updates for life." I even purchased products I really didn't need just to support Unsanity. You broke that promise. You could have honored your promise to people who had already purchased your products and changed the license for new purchases. You broke your promise and you'll never get another penny out of me.
Posted by: dave on November 8, 2011 9:10 PMEvery haxie that is currently available and not in beta for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will be made available for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
You are hearing about this now because we've identified what is the base amount of work that needs to be done for each haxie. And ETAs only exist so they can be missed.
Posted by: Rosyna on November 8, 2011 10:21 PMYou must be joking.
Update your flagship products, then you'll see the money. You haven't even *planned* the obviously first-round updates for WindowShade X and FruitMenu? Or Xounds or Mighty Mouse?
Get real.
I've bought licenses to more than three-quarters of your catalogue over the years, but you're nuts if you think I'm bidding on licenses to broken software to *maybe* see a fix some time this (or next) year.
Your business model is currently broken.
Posted by: lolwut on November 8, 2011 11:31 PMFirst: This news made my day. The only reason I still use SL because I just need my mightymouse custom cursor to work happily.
I must say, I would buy several versions of it to have it in Lion, but I agree with others that it's hard to spend money just on the chance it might get upgraded.
How about a voting, or a kickstarter project?
I would instantly donate 100$ to make mightymouse work.
Posted by: Garvin on November 8, 2011 11:47 PMvery interesting post. Thanks very Much. Very well written post.I will be forwarding it to my friends.Keep up the good work! I love it!
Posted by: Naukri Rozgar on November 9, 2011 5:09 AMThis is so badly flawed. I have previously bought EVERY haxie you have ever made and found them extremely useful. I have no problem paying upgrades for the extensive work you will have to undertake to make Lion versions, but to expect people to send cash now for products that may or may not see the light of day is presumptuous at best and fraudulent at worst. It is an appalling business model designed to ensure your early demise. Get real. Your track record of keeping people informed is abysmal - your previous post on this page was dated Feb 2010. Your sluggishness in producing SL versions was extremely disappointing. Now, suddenly months after Lion is released you decide you MIGHT have another go by dipping into your mailing list one last time, but only if your users fund you up front. What kind of an asinine decision is that?
Posted by: David on November 9, 2011 5:24 AMThere is a design flaw in the promotional, Rosyna, for those of us who follow faithfully have no need of any new haxie among those available ... so as one noted, I'd have to buy again what I have already bought in order to be registered as having a new. My favorite haxies are Fruit Menu, Labels-X, MenuMaster, and long lost and mourned Mighty Mouse, alphabetical order only. Menu Master is already broken under 10.6.8 with Safari 5.1.1 (6534.51.22). (When a menu item is already long, the shortcut doesn't stick.)
Posted by: TedBurton on November 9, 2011 5:51 AMI'm especially interested in WindowShade and Labels-X. I appreciate the discount and am quite willing to pay for these haxies. Thanks to Unsanity's team for their continuing interest in our wishes/needs.
Posted by: Keith Richardson on November 9, 2011 7:35 AMI was shocked but pleasantly surprised to receive this notice in my email. I have no problem paying upgrade fees for all my haxies. (I have purchased them all) This paying ahead the release strategy seems a bit off though. Maybe if you offered a refund if for some reason the Haxies were not updated for Lion? Just a thought. Anyway I look forward to the updated Haxies and updating to Lion.
Im willing to pay more for ShapeShifter, to me is the best software it ever has existed for Mac, now about paying for a software who hasn't come out yet, well thats a risk id love to take, only because i love this software so much, I've known you guys since i started using mac´s ten years ago, you were the second largest discovery in my technological life after Mac's and God, so please let ShapeShifter arise again, i have waited so many to see this great thing installed on my Mac again.
A sincere fan of your work, and ShapeShifter.
Posted by: Andrew Thompson on November 9, 2011 11:33 AMGreat news you are back. I'll be happy to donate upgrades for Fruit Menu, Windowshade, Labels, Xounds as I paid for the the version 1 only and some discount when upgrade 2 was available, but to pay upfront for something which would never see the light . . .not sure about that. I get paid for what I have done, not for what I might not.
Posted by: MIke on November 9, 2011 11:39 AMAnother vote to pay if/when Xounds & Fruit Menu come out with Lion compatibility. Not really interested in re-buying applications that currently don't work but glad to hear from you that you are working on updates.
Posted by: Localboy on November 9, 2011 11:46 AMI like the idea of using kickstarter for the funding.
This should give you a reasonable idea of how many people would pay how much for upgrades, and it would be a safe invest for people because they only pay for what gets programmed.
Posted by: George on November 9, 2011 11:58 AMI understand what you are doing, and I'm fine with paying for new versions of the two Haxies I use, which are FruitMenu and Windowshade X, however, I'm concerned that I would be paying for the new versions, and then they are never produced due to lack of interest.
But, if I know they are going to be produced at some point int he future, than I'm fine with buying them now. I sure haven't paid for any updates in a long time.
And nice to see you Rosyna, didn't know if you were still with the company.
Posted by: David on November 9, 2011 12:02 PMSo I decided to go ahead and order FruitMenu and Windowshade X, since they are available for Snow Leopard, and as you said, that means they will be available for Lion.
But now I'm having an issue with the webstore. The first item I place in the cart does not have the discount. The second does, (but it's not a 45% discount). If I remove the first one, then the remaining one goes back to full price.
Also, they are not getting a 45% discount. They are going from $15 to $13.50. It should be $8.25.
Posted by: David on November 9, 2011 12:53 PMGood to know that if it is an SL haxie it will be a Lion haxie. First sign of a beta on twitter for any haxie and I'll buy the FM and WS SL versions, even though I have them. And, yes, very good to see you are up and running again.
Posted by: Geoff on November 9, 2011 12:55 PMGlad to see you are back.
Myself, I'm still on SL, WindowShade and FruitMenu are 2 of the reasons I've held off upgrading to Lion (among others).
As much as I would love to have both those haxies back, I would love to see at least a working beta before I pay for the upgrade.
Just my $.02.

Posted by: Jay on November 9, 2011 1:15 PMThe email today was great news. Windowshade and Labels have been mainstays for years. All the same, I've reordered and downloaded legacy versions under the discount program, even though they won't work yet. I want to encourage you to get on with the Lion upgrade. Meantime, I figure paying the discounted price for the repurchase amounts to an upgrade fee. Provided the upgrade eventually appears....
Please don't let your fans down.
You're asking people to speculate on upgrades. How did that even pass the smell test, let alone a post?
Posted by: Jay on November 9, 2011 2:04 PMWhy not an on-line poll? Seems rather obvious Fruit Menu, Window Shade, Labels and Mighty Mouse would be favorites.
One suggestion. Be more prompt and upfront with what's going on behind the scenes as Lion betas are developed. Inadequate communication about SL beta development (even on Twitter) turned quite a number of customers off.
Posted by: Joseph on November 9, 2011 3:37 PMOh, yeah, I'm buying TWO licenses for FruitMenu and Windowshade. These are critical for me, and I don't care what you charge for them, paid upgrade, whatever. I waited on these before moving to Snow Leopard, and I'm waiting on them before moving to Lion. I need 'em!
How do we know you're not a drug addict and aren't going to take the money and disappear with it and never release any updates?
I NEED WindowShade. I like LabelsX, so I will purchase both, I'm just not sure I want to pre-pay.
Posted by: Dr. Drew (jk) on November 9, 2011 7:32 PMI'm in complete agreement with the complaints about the strategy Unsanity is taking with regard to Lion upgrades.
I recommend Unsanity refund the money users have so far paid for "upgrades" and forge ahead with Lion compatibility.
As a longtime user of Unsanity's products, each OS X upgrade has been more painful than the last. I am down to one haxie which, truth be told, I learned to live without because of the slow compatibility update for Snow Leopard.
At this point I'm moving on to Lion and hoping Unsanity will come along but I'm pretty much indifferent.
I say all this not to threaten or cajole Unsanity, only to provide some insight into a mindset that they are cultivating due to their market approach. Basically, some loyal users are being turned into indifferent (and hostile) users and defecting users.
Good luck.

Posted by: electronic cigarettes on November 15, 2011 4:14 AMI vote for FruitMenu, WindowShade and Labels. I'll gladly pay for the upgrade to OSX 10.7 versions when they ship. I see no point paying now for a second copy of the three haxies which I already own, and which will be as broken as the first copy when I upgrade to Lion.
Please show your faithful user base some respect, not the least of which is communicating on a regular basis as to the progress on the new versions.

Posted by: JohnnyMao on November 16, 2011 6:48 AMI've been a user of Fruitmenu, X-Sounds and WindowShade for a long time. I love the Haxies and love what they do. What I DON'T love is your seeming inability to support your customers in anything like a timely manner. Lion wasn't a surprise to any of us but it seems to have been one to you. This leads me to believe that either you are a "fly by night" organization that is sinking or that you just plain could care less about the people who have help'd you earn a living so far.
Starting today I'm not going to be using your products any longer and will pay no further money to you for any new products until they are commercially available. Your sales tactics are ridiculous and border on fraud. Too bad you couldn't seem to keep abreast of the changes, whatever their scope, in OSX as it progressed. That simply highlights you lack of attention, technical expertise and customer support all the more. You seem to have gotten the SL Haxies out just in time for Lions release, which means you'l have Lion compatibility shortly after 10.8 is released. Good riddence.
Posted by: Paul on November 18, 2011 5:41 PMDear Unsanity!
I would be the first to pay for mightymouse even in advance if you make me sure you will develop this product for LION.
Please give me any feedback on Mightymouse.
"Salut" from Geneva, Switzerland!
No matter the time it will take but, please, do me ONE... no, TWO favors : FruitMenu and WindowShade for Lion. I won't switch to Lion until I don't have "my" little icon instead of the app's name. And without WindowShade, days are all but sunny.
Hope to read good news from you soon.
I have pre-purchased Labels X, Fruit Menu, and Menu Master...
IN SPITE OF THE FACT that you have not responded to my emails for years now.
This is your last chance, so hop to it.
Does the 45% discount code still work if we purchase at the beginning of next year?
Posted by: toilet paper coupons on November 23, 2011 8:13 PMwell, its simple. when lion was released, I was checking unsanity progress since then. you suck with updating your web and communicating with us, we all know that.
so, anyway, I can guarantee, that I will purchase my already purchased haxies fruitmenu, windowshade, xounds, labels without ANY problems, will pay upfronbt if you can guarantee its compatibility, but no way I'll be re-purchasing what I have for SL for discount. thats all. best mike
Posted by: mike on November 25, 2011 8:45 AMWindowshade is the only thing that's kept me sane since OSX discarded that great piece of functionality from Classic. I'm fine with paying for the upgrade - just get it out in beta for us, PLEASE. Working on a 13" laptop is tough without it.

C'mon folks. I don't see complaints about a lack of compatibility/usability, they're from how you deal with your customers (and products). Obviously I don't know the numbers, but you still seem to have quite a few LOYAL customers (especially after the SL update delays). The only ones you see here are the _vocal_ ones. I'm confident most that wound up bailing just silently disappeared. I understand the need for profitability, but I'm sure profitability comes with numbers. If numbers fell over the SL upgrade, you really have no one to blame but yourselves.
Hate to say it, but, love the products, hate the way you're dealing with us. Please, do it right this time...
Posted by: Charlie on November 29, 2011 10:04 AMI really really love Xounds, and will rebuy it in a second at full price if you Lion-ize it. But asking us to pay for something that may not even make the cut seems desperate and crazy.
Do your job, code your software and THEN we will buy it. Thanks.
Posted by: DC on November 29, 2011 10:50 AMIt's sad to see that no unsanity employee comments on the negative feedback.
Kinda proves the point, sadly. :-/
Posted by: Garvin on November 29, 2011 11:08 AMI’ve been a faithful customer since 2003 and I remember the “free updates forever” story … and I have always recommended your Haxies …
I’d even be willing to pay a second time for _good_ software (FruitMenu, WindowShade X), but PAY AHEAD? NOT KNOWING WHETHER THE SOFTWARE WILL APPEAR? NEVER!
You seem to be desperate … and you seem to be willing risk putting off all of your customers. VERY SAD.
K thx bye,

It's either difficult to do, or no one cares about this feature, but there's no other alternative.
Right now, I'm learning to live without it. Still willing to pay, but annoyed at the delay. My only guess is Unsanity products are not your prime source of income, so come in 3rd or 4th on the priority list. Which is fine -- it's your decision to make, just as spending our money is ours.
I also bump all the comments re: your business model for these upgrades.
Posted by: Kevin on December 4, 2011 9:42 AM+1 on windowshade!

I even pre-paid (again!) to show my support, but I agree asking us to do so is a bit much.
I sure wish I hadn't upgraded to Lion. It broke my favorite haxies and seems to offer no benefits in return.
Posted by: Ryan on December 5, 2011 12:38 PMOK, I bit the bullet and purchased Windowshade, Fruitmenu and Xounds. I really hope that by doing so, it speeds up the development of these haxies.
Posted by: blikum on December 6, 2011 9:46 AMThe Devs here have gotten lazy.
They seem disinterested in continuing their products and have subsequently contintued to slip further and further behind.
Take a look at their current chart for the transition from 10.5 to 20.6 - MOST of their products never made it to 10.6 (unless they were simply lazy and did not update the compatibility page).
And now they are not going to upgrade anything unless they get enough Users to pay for a product in advanced - prior to development ? AND they convey that it might be months before anything tangible is outed ?
What that means is by the time that OS X 10.8 is released - Unsanity MIGHT have a couple of Betas ready for testing on Lion.
This is nothing new - they have been doing development like this for years and the timetable gets longer and longer every transition.
What are we supposed to do Unsanity - stay 1 OS behind the times just so that we can use your software ? Frak that !
I won't pay you anything for software that does not exist.
Develop the damned software - develop it in a very timely manner so that the current OS you are developing for is still current - stabilize it and I might buy something from you again.
BUT NO MORE MONEY until there is something to actually purchase.
Posted by: billy bob on December 8, 2011 7:06 AMI would pay more if you guarantee its compatibility, and help with trouble shooting and timely updates. Thanks
Posted by: stephanie taylor on December 8, 2011 7:29 AMI'm wondering how many of the posts saying they purchased nothing before it exists are actual people and how many are filler provided by "friends of the devs" on the Thread ?
I'm wondering why we are paying for compatibility updates - with a lack of new features from one version to the next. The past couple of versions really have not added anything new to the functionality - just made each title work on an OS.
And YES - I have been around since the early days when we were supposed to get free upgrades for life.
Most folks will not pay you money for imaginary products. This is not pre-school and we are not playing make-believe.
And YES - I am almost tempted to simply send you money - wait 6 months - then bring you up on Fraud charges.
Change your business model - stop rejecting your User base - get your shit together - give us regular and current feedback on the development cycles and either run your company or shut it down.
Posted by: mark the spot on December 8, 2011 7:35 AMWhy not just charge for updates to each new major version of Mac OS X? That should bring in enough revenue to justify keeping your software up to date. Definitely better than the current situation. I've prepaid for WindowShade, and would likely pay for other software if and when it's updated.
Posted by: Bill on December 8, 2011 10:30 AMSo, first time I can't realize: pay before? WTF?

Simple comment: I will pay for one copy of each WHEN you have it available and not before:

As for everything else, I agree with every single post here that denounces this deplorable, ARROGANT handling of users and customers. No sense, no respect. Manipulative. Nonsensical. Asinine. Dumbest thing I ever heard.
Yu already know what's most popular by past purchased. If you needed votes, which you don't, you could ask for votes without pre-purchases.
But you know what you need to do. So do it and stop stringing us out. No other shareware developer behaves like this.

Posted by: Mac on January 15, 2012 9:01 AMI enjoyed reading it. I need to read more on this topic...I admiring time and effort you put in your blog, because it is obviously one great place where I can find lot of useful info.
I imagine it's only a matter of time before this fraudulent site is shut down. No response in months. Very sad.
Posted by: on January 17, 2012 12:06 AMThe Better Business Bureau in Phoenix has received complaints against Unsanity, LLC (located in Phoenix, AZ) regarding problems with product/service. It is no surprise that Unsanity has yet to respond to the complaints. The BBB has posted a rating of F for this company.
Posted by: Rob on January 18, 2012 11:59 PMUnsanity has my money - am I happy with their lack of attention to their loyal base? Of course not. But I don't want them for friends - I want their product. I still hope they will come through in the end. If not, won't be the first time I've pissed away a couple of bucks - but on the flip side, life would be significantly better if I could run WindowShade on OSX Lion...
Posted by: aka on January 20, 2012 11:15 AMI seriously consider this site needs much more attention.
I will probably be back again to browse much more, many thanks for the data.
A single point I just would like to say is the fact your Blog is so ideal valuable for us.
I hope you will keep in submitting new articles or blog posts & thank you for sharing your great experience among us.
none are more vicious than a wronged macophile….
Inaccuracies aside, this is a “catch up” release. Don’t see any reason for Windows 7 users to move over.
Equally, though, I haven’t seen anything in Windows 8, so far, that would persuade an OSX user to switch.

How about you release Application Enhancer for 10.7 and let other developers actually work on updates as well? the SDK should be updated to 10.7 support first...
Posted by: Steve Jobs on January 31, 2012 1:13 PMSo you plan on upgrading your haxies for Lion? Will you be finished before 10.8 comes out? Not that someone waits till then and when/if they come out, the next OS release is already there but the haxies cannot be used with it.
In other words: maybe you should down your "efforts", AFAICS there not worth anything.

Three months and no follow up! WTF! What about the discount, what about the folks who have paid in advance, what about some apps, what about some common courtesy to respond. Posted by: on February 8, 2012 10:11 AMI am on the same boad as sd here. Not happy at all moving to Lion but MobileMe will be shut down in few so I will have to switch for iCloud. Unfortunately this ignorance of unsanity is known fact for those who has been with them in the past.I do feel sorry for those who paid for Lion support and if not to everyone, at lease those people should be notified what the hell is going on.
You are the worst of the worst developers with complete disrespect of your costumers. Shame on you. This is not what Apple is about and never was. You just don't fit. I am surprised you did what you did. Those apps deserves much better !!!!
Posted by: mike on February 9, 2012 12:39 AMDisappointing that there hasn't been any updated information or updated products. I used to be a big fan of Unsanity but no more. I won't waste my money on empty promises of updates. Buyer Beware!
Posted by: Scott on February 9, 2012 6:30 AMReally ???? You are going to charge us for upgrades when you told us that we had FREE UPGRADES FOR LIFE>..... I THINK THAT IS ABSOLUTE FRAUD !!!!! I fully expect to be provided with my free upgrades to the LION VERSIONS of all my taxies if they ever come out. A Deal is a Deal, and you cannot just change the rules. If you do want to charge me for upgrades, you can GET BENT
Posted by: Greg on February 9, 2012 12:34 PMI already paid for Mighty Mouse years ago, then gladly paid the VUF a couple of years when you asked. Now if you produce a Lion compatible version of Mighty Mouse I will gladly pay again for several licenses. However, I will not pay in advance. For all I know it will be 10 months before you update your site again. Not cool, Rosyna!
