Well, I've got APE working on Panther. Amazingly enough, existing versions of our haxies still work fine, aside from some minor tweaks required for WindowShade X to display window titles for MIPed windows. Well, we've got plenty of time to get that fixed. APE is still getting confused about fast user switching, but it's fixable, and I'll get to it as soon as I am back in Russia.

Excellent! I've been reading that the "brushed metal" look is spreading like a virus in Panther, so I was really, really hoping Metallifizer could continue to remove that hideous disaster from my life.
Posted by: Jeremy on June 29, 2003 2:59 PMHA! APE 1.3 doesn't work for poop in panther! i assume you have an updated version somewhere...any chance you could let some of us download it and the SDK for development purposes?
Posted by: mnkeybsness on June 29, 2003 4:30 PMWell it's great to see progress is being made, and that our future has been secured :) At least you have a lot of time on fixing this, no point in releasing panther-updates till the OS is released - anyone who run it as their main OS until then is just plain stupid.
On a completely unrelated note, I tried out an old friend of mine today: Mint :)
Any chance Mint will be updated in the future? Like, a complete re-write? The current version has a lot of Classic elements in it - and we really need a good MOD player on the Mac. I do not take the risk on buying it now at a discounted $7, I know you would charge again for a eventual re-write :) Keep it up!
Posted by: Andreas Tellefsen on June 29, 2003 4:52 PMgood work : ) an early downloadable beta for those (registered) haxie users who are working (not dabbling) with the Panther DP would be great - and probably provide you guys with some decent feedback early on ... no?
Posted by: eff on June 30, 2003 7:26 AMwell, for actual registered Developers, running Panther full time as our main (well, near main) OS is essential. or we will never know what users will experience with our code, what is fscked up, etc.
i would LOVE to get updated APE for Panther.
Posted by: The Ben on June 30, 2003 9:08 PMThe updated APE will be nice. Thanks for all your hard work.
We need a new haxie. One that lets me control the login (user) menu at the far right of the screen. It should let me remove the name (icon only) menu or name without icons.
Something fairly simple. Thanks!
Posted by: Court Kizer on July 1, 2003 2:51 PMYA vote for a Panther release of APE once the switch user funkiness is gone. I'd like to work in XCode and see what Panther will mean for my apps as well without running in terror whenever I use the Finder.
Posted by: Joshua on July 1, 2003 7:47 PMPanther APE. Want it. Now.
And I really want to see what a panther ape actually looks like.
Ah. And Mint. Want it, too :-)) Actually I only want the MOD player part of it, just like Andreas. It's a great engine, just the loops (restarts of songs) are a bit skippy, otherwise it's near perfect.
Posted by: zappo on July 2, 2003 2:51 PMI used to be addicted a feature of uControl : the trackpad scrolling with fn key. No longer works in Panther. The famous iJect hack doesn't work anymore because the "overriden" methods seem private now.
Does APE rely on the same kind of hack ? Looking forward to get hands on the Panther compatible version !
Oh yes : I switched full time to Panther, I think it is the purpose of a developer release, isn't it ?
