FontCard 1.0 (and then 1.0.1) were released yesterday to much fanfare or something. A 1.0.2 update is forthcoming to fix some bugs like incorrect identification of German font menus (Schrift instead of Schriftart), some font variations not being selectable, duplicate fonts appearing when they shouldn't and whatever else might come up.
Work on FontCard 1.1 starts after work on an update to Menu Master is complete. FontCard 1.1 will also need a GUI redesign because not all the new options will fit on the Applications tab. I would like to hear any suggestions for the redesign with a few requirements: the intro tab must exist as it does, the table that exists now with the applications/regex entries must exist, and the user must be able to see/choose which application/regex the current visible options apply to.
People can still email me to be on the beta list (even if they won't do anything or provide any feedback) if they wish. 1.0.2 may or may not even have a beta cycle. And finally, if anyone sees anything mentioning FontCard anywhere please either email me, or preferably, post a comment to this entry via the comment system or a trackback.
Update:Kunio Mitsuma has made a really good webpage about FontCard.

"... I guess I am ok with people not giving any feedback for any beta, I'll just call these people leeches ..."
and there goes the old saying "If your sitting in the glass house etc. etc. ..."
i just looked three posts down the blog and asked myself what feedback i ever got from slava and brian ... oh right - none at all.
the moral here would be: "don't ask for what you can't (or aren't willing to) give yourself ..."

Posted by: on August 16, 2003 4:03 AMRosyna,
I am having an anomaly with the FINDER that causes me to FORCE QUIT the FINDER that I believe to be connected to FontCard. However, I purchased yet another motorcycle and must ride it today so it'll have to be later (you know...those important things in life, like motorcycling).
BTW, for all those who are beta testers, I chose to purchase my copy of FontCard in support Unsanity. Great haxies for peanuts if you ask me, but who's asking?
Posted by: CREB on August 16, 2003 8:56 AMFalse alarm on the FINDER FORCE QUIT. It was Default Folder causing the problem and NOT FontCard...so please disregard the previous message.
Posted by: CREB on August 16, 2003 10:53 PMI'd love to review it and find any bugs, but that would mean I'd have to boot back in Jaguar! Even the beta of Panther is just to good to not run fulltime for me! ;-)
Posted by: Court Kizer on August 17, 2003 5:03 AMHello!
LOVE FontCard! My observations...
My setup: Quicksilver Dual-OS 10.2.6
Suitcase 10.2.2
Adobe PS Type 1 Fonts
(also tried on a 17" Powerbook with same software)
Freehand MX - works great! except some of the fonts are not active? The pattern seems to be the bold/italic version of the same font
Photoshop 7.0.1 - totally unusable-main toolbar greyed out
Illustrator 10.03 - kinda weird-works in the main font pulldown menu until you try to use the font palet. Then the main font pulldown doesn't show the wysiwyg feature. But the fonts are all there, grouped accordingly.
Works well in Freehand MX, but needs to work with fonts turned on in Suitcase after Freehand has been opened. Having to quit Freehand to activate a font is a real problem for me.
