FruitMenu 3.3.2b2
This is a relatively small update for Tiger compatibility. It also adds a French translation and adds a workaround to the fact FSResolveAliasFileWithMountFlags isn't thread safe despite the documenation for said function saying otherwise. It is definitely not thread safe. Nor is FSResolveAliasFileWithMountFlagsThreadSafe. It's only 3.3.2 instead of 3.4 because it offers no significant changes over 3.3.1 other than Tiger compatibility Update: I thought it might be funny to show what happened when we tried to re-enable the feature on Tiger. Please don't ask for this silly example to become a feature.
Update 2: Thanks to the superbly handsome Jason Harris, the icon is back. Note that it has less than stellar results for unbundled applications, I've only got two of those on my machine. Download the second betathe second below. FruitMenu 3.3.2b2

Hi- Consider this a feature request. Please figure out how to make the application menu into an icon again. It's a great way to save screen real estate and it's the main reason I use FruitMenu ;) Thanks, I second Quentin's request. Since I keep about a dozen menu extras up there, with Spotlight now, too, and some apps have so many menus, the icon app menu is a big help! Thanks for your haxing fun! Posted by: Ben Rosenthal on April 25, 2005 7:44 PMWe tried like crazy to get it to work. Tried everything. Most I could get it to do was show every menu *but* the application menu as the icon. Which is a funny sight... Posted by: Rosyna on April 25, 2005 8:10 PMHow unfortunate... that's really the only feature of FruitMenu that matters to me in the long run... are you saying it won't ever be a feature in Tiger? Sucks. Posted by: Garrett on April 25, 2005 8:35 PMAwesome, awesome, awesome, guys. I'm very excited to hear the menu as icon feature is working again. Great work! Please also note that in my previous comment I meant the situation sucks, not Unsanity. I realize a lot of your work is hacking away at OS X and it sucks when Apple makes a change that invalidates some of your features. Very excited you've got it working again, though. Can't wait to try it out in Tiger! Posted by: Garrett on April 26, 2005 8:30 AMI noticed that FruitMenu says it's "Mother approved." Is it also "Kid tested?" :) Posted by: Mike on April 27, 2005 10:11 AMUnfortunately, "menu as icon" is not working too well with FruitMenu in Tiger. When a program takes a while to load, you see the program name rather than the icon. When it is replaced with the icon, the menu bar is not completely redrawn. Right now, I'm looking at "Help elp" at the right edge of the menu bar, for example. Posted by: on April 29, 2005 9:49 PMFruit menu definitely needs some work. I found that not only is there a delay in loading for each application but you also get the name of Mozilla and Firefox plus the icon. Posted by: George on May 12, 2005 7:31 PM |
