Calling for New Testers

I'm looking for testers for upcoming versions of Silk, Menu Master, Labels X, and FontCard. If you want to be a tester for any of those haxies (and only those haxies) either post your full name (first and last) here along with your email address or email said information to rosyna at this company dot com along with the name(s) of the product(s) you want to test. If you are going to make a comment here with said information and don't want your email address to be available to the public, then just fill out the URL field and your email address will be hidden to everyone else.

Please note that it may be a while before some of these go into testing and once they do you'll likely get a bunch of emails about new versions in a short amount of time. And for the love of Pete, if you ask to be on any of the above product's lists, then submit feedback when you get a beta version. Even if that feedback is just "Works fine here, cowboy."

We will not sell your email addresses or names. We also do not store the email addresses on any PCs at all so there is no chance of them being compromised. And this is only a request for the above products only.

Digg This!

I'm already on the lists, but I want to ask an important question as when working with Jason on MM, he recommended that I do a "Restart" versus a "Log Out" to implement the latest build. I loaded latest of FC and noted some strange happenings after the requisite "Log Out", a "Restart' cleared matters. It is best to "Restart" in 10.4.1? Or should I do a "Repair Permissions"? Okay...okay...I know...I know... ;)

I am serious about the "Restart" question. Thanks.

Posted by: CREB on May 26, 2005 9:16 AM

CREB, no, restart will only work for APE 1.5.1 and MightyMouse, Xounds, and Windowshade (and maybe shapeshifter) if they aren't working and installed globally. Or you could just manually kill all their daemons. That'll work too without a restart. A logout isn't enough to kill those app's daemons. It does not apply to FontCard.

However, the Font subsystem in OS X can get hosed (without the help of FontCard) and it might be a bear to get working again. I've had it die on me multiple times on the past because of the things I have to do to test FontCard.

put me on the list for LabelsX

Posted by: michel on May 26, 2005 1:32 PM

CREB, the restart thing was very much a special case, as Rosyna said a moment ago. In general, a logout does the trick.

Posted by: Jason Harris on May 26, 2005 1:43 PM

Jason & Rosyna,

I am finding out with 10.4.1 (at least for me) that if you do not heed the messages by installers, you run the risk of anomalies. I used to push the limits on all software updates, if several needed to be done, and sneaked them all in under one restart. 10.4.1 seems to be less forgiving and I will start doing a restart for all my installers. So far, I am not as happy with Tiger as I would like to be...maybe when Apple releases Tigress, I'll be happier?

I use Tiger on two machines, a G5 iMac and a G4 iBook, both as haxied up as possible, am almost never away from a Mac, and have used silk for as long as I can remember and miss it dearly.
