bug report for you. Using 2.4b2, using the kamino theme. On the Camino browser, the bookmarks toolbar, the names of my folders and bookmarks dont show up till I click on them. So far only this theme, so it might just be a theme setting. If its not a bug, can you tell me what to change in the theme?

Jeez, I goofed. Its the ETERNAL theme. Got it from the download section of shapeshifter.

Using b3 on a Macbook Pro. Application Enhancer 2.0.1 still not working with the beta or with Fruitmenu. Therefore, none of my haxies are working.

The normal MenuExtra icons for the RemoteDesktop.menu (the different states of the Apple Remote Desktop MenuExtra) are being displayed and/or converted incorrectly (I posted this in the other thread, but have since discovered it's more than just the normal default).

I've further found that not only does it appear all the normal icons are displayed incorrectly (they are jumbled), but at the same time it appears all the inverted icons (after clicking on the MenuExtra) are being displayed correctly (the icon displayed is different when selected)...

I get an error in Adobe Photoshop CS2. "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

Do you think there's a temporary fix to this?

Here is a suggestion to control spread of beta to novice users and misunderstanding download sites (they submit it and for staying up to date, they allow it blindly or missing the beta remark)

You should password protect the disk image with some simple thing as "unsane" so even user got link from somewhere without reading beta remarks won't be able to open/install it.

Omni Group did do similar thing in their "Sneaky Peek" alpha/closed beta program.

If you don't believe this is a problem, compare blog hits with the beta disk image hits ;) You will be surprised.

To followup my earlier comment: I needed a full shutdown and startup to get SS (and the other haxies to work).

I'm just wondering if following is a bug or its the way its supposed to be. Unified applications (non-metal) will lose their unification and will look like old aqua apps. An example of this is Camino. Will eventually all appz be unified w/ the shapeshifter theme? Thanks

Hmm, I don't have any errors like you guys. Using macbook pro with beta 3 and using Photo Pro theme! This theme kicks butt. The only thing that is quirky is that some application themes don't apply really well when you change themes but when I restart it works fine. I got it to register to application enhancer without doing anything...

Lots of app crashes (notably Safari) since updating! Random crashes - not under heavy load or anything, the app just dies. ALSO: kernel panics, randomly! This is on a MacBook, 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 10.4.7 with latest APE and Silk activated...

Forgot to mention this was for SmoothStripes theme. I LOVE that theme but this problem is keeping me from using it. Thanks :)

In DragThing 5.6.4 there is a display bug in the preference window. The selected icon label appears black on a black background. Non selected icon labels appear correctly.

This bug is present in beta 1, 2 and 3 of ShapeShifter on my MBP.

After a minute or two of unresponsiveness, 2.4b3 gives me:

"Version (null) of ShapeShifter is now available. Would you like to download it now?"

Clicking any of "Remind Later", "Ignore", or "Download" gets ignored.

This is on a Powerbook running OS X 10.4.7, behind a HTTP proxy (which I suspect accounts for the lag).

Actually, I believe the DragThing problem reported by Jacques has nothing to do with ShapeShifter. I noticed this in DragThing a couple weeks ago (before the first ShapeShifter beta was even released). I had assumed it had something to do with the Intel side of things...

Try disabling ShapeShifter, then go back into DragThing preferences & see if the problem still occurs... You will probably see the problem still occur (indicating it's a program error & not a ShapeShifter bug).

Okay, I've noticed some various problems seemingly related to text boxes.

First of which, for some reason when I visit this we page (in Safari), this very text box I'm typing in right now ends up having NO border before I click inside it... It literally looks like nothing is here.

The second issue, which is more general, seems also to be related to text box borders, but somewhat reverse from above. For some reason, in various program, some of the text boxes get a scrambled up border around them. Essentially like the computer first tried to draw the border in black, then improperly removed that line, so there are a few broken bits of colors ranging from black, to dark red, to dark & light blue, in line form ranging from a single pixel to maybe a line of 10 to 15 pixles where border should be...

beta 3 haxies working here on Intel 10.4.7. I don't run MS Office, but i do run ThinkFree Office 3. Calc, Show, and Write working in PowerPC mode.

OK, so using b3 on MBP: Canvas X, Acrobat and Photoshop still crash on launch. This is under Muku 1.0.1 theme.

Bobby T. said it. The DragThing active label issue is NOT related to ShapeShifter.

I've desactivated ShapeShifter to test this out. And since I can't live without ShapeShifter, I quickly reactivated it.

Issue with translated is NOT ShapeShifter related.
I dont even have it installed and i have to kill translated once every couple of days and it only started happening after 10.4.7 install.

I do have APE and WindowShadeX installed on my MacBook Pro, so APE may be the one to blame here?

2.4b2 still causes PPC applications to crash on launch on Intel-based Macs for the following applications:

- Microsoft office 2004, especially when pressing command + p (or file > print)
- Adobe suite CS1 (Acrobat pro, Illustrator, Photoshop).
- Pic 2 icon

I have to reboot my Mac to open those applications.
As soon as I unistall Shapeshiter, everything's fine.

You know? Igor may have a point here... Way before I had installed any of the SS betas, I had to remove all the APE stuff because I was getting crashies.

Take a look Unsanity... The dust-mites could be hiding under the rug...

AND it will also tell you that this bug is known.

I'm glad it's a known bug. Egot may known that as well. The point is, for those of us who actually have to use their Macs for work, this bug does not let us use the APE beta that's installed with the Shapeshifter beta without killing Rosetta constantly. That's a bug which means you can't install Shapeshifter and get work done in any efficient way. I use Fruitmenu, etc. to improve my productivity. I can't use them if APE crashes many of my apps...and no, I have nothing against APE and that whole storm in a teacup.

Please fix the bug. That's all. That's all egot wants also. Any timeframe as to when that may happen would be helpful. Thanks.

As stated in the original post, we are most definitely aware of this bug, and we're working on it desperately. It just ain't an easy one to fix.

And is is an APE issue, not a ShapeShifter issue. In fact, it even happens on machines that APE has never been installed on. But APE exacerbates it, and ShapeShifter really exacerbates it. So I consider it to be our bug to fix.

Bishop, your Camino issue is probably due to Camino hardcoding its text colors. Can't fix, if so, although the Camino team may be willing to make the change on their end.

Unified windows - this is a limitation of ShapeShifter. I'm playing with it now, while waiting for an APE fix for the Rosetta issue (I don't work on APE).

AHD - it's because you're behind a proxy. I'll fix this at some point, but not sure if it'll be in ShapeShifter 2.4, as it's a relatively rare issue and the fix is non-trivial.

Bobby T - your text box issue is a part of the theme, not a generalized ShapeShifter issue. You'd have to talk to the theme artist to get it fixed. Most themes get it right.

Once again, if your PPC apps are crashing on Intel, we know! You don't have to tell us again!

I don't know if you guys are having the same problem... but it seems ever since installing ShapeShifter on my Intel 17" iMac (2GB RAM), both MacTheRipper AND HandBrake (really, two of my most essential apps) crash when reading a DVD.

Here's a fix... Well not a fix really, just a quick way to save having to boot up terminal and type "sudo killall translated" every time you want to run word/excel.

Open script editor, and enter in the following:
do shell script "sudo killall translated" password "********" with administrator privileges

(enter in your actual password; if you don't want to inscurely store your pass like this just omit that part and there will be a dialog box)

Then save it as an application bundle and check off the "run only" box. Drag the new app from the finder into your dock, give it a nice icon, and just click it right before you run word next time.

I'm working on a way to run this script (see above) automatically whenever a Rosetta app launches; this could actually be a long-term solution to the shapeshifter/APERosetta problem. If you have any ideas on how to go about doing this, please post them.

using the amora theme. after shutting down my macbook and turning it on again the next day, a lot of my settings are gone. eg firefox and msn has to be reinstalled, expose has to be reset etc. the theme itself also reverts to the usual mac theme. I'm using Macbook 2Ghz 1GB RAM OS 10.4.6

After installing 2.4b3 and applying a theme, several things started going wrong- first, Adium crashes every time I try to open a chat window. Also, in several applications the application opens, and it isn't frozen up or anything (for example in quicktime I can go to fullscreen mode and it acts normally), but no window appears (quicktime again- the sound will be playing but there is no video window until I go to fullscreen). Finally, in the system preferences if I click many of the options (including shapeshifter), it says "loading shapeshifter" (or loading displays, etc), and just hangs there until I quit. I've kept it up for 10 minutes before, and it never actually loads the preference pane.

Any suggestions?

hey jason. i decided to delete my shapshifter beta, however i cannot. i tried emptying the trash and it always comes up with a notice called canot delete because cache manager is in use. cannot delete because application enchancer is in use. cannot delete because aped is in use. cannot delete because shapeshifter is in use. and no matter how long i search for, i cannot find any of these. please help me!!

Andrew, you're getting this message because those items are still loaded into your running applications. You can delete them if you log out and back in again first. Running apps will no longer include them after the log out/in, so you'll be able to delete them.

If you have Leopard, DO NOT try using this. After installing, the computer will not be able to log out, and upon restarting, the log in window will not appear. (So, can we expect this running on Leopard anytime soon? You finished it on Intel like 2 weeks ago, I think that's a long enough rest ;) )

why in the world would you even try it on leopard? leopard isn't near done yet and unless you were at WWDC, you don't have legal access to leopard.

installed the shapeshifter beta and i also have clear dock running as well. I had a few problems with some programs not responding and not opening at all when executed. Notably Entourage and AIM. Also , load/boot time increases when using shapeshifter...

Two problems:

It seems to be interfering with DefaultFolder - DF widgets now take much longer to appear (and disappear when closed) on open/save dialogs, and their menus take a long time to pop up, and the "Finder-click" feature is broken. Latest DF 3.0.2 (universal).

Random mouse clicks and key presses are dropped.

Huh, suddenly DF is behaving now. No restart/logout, didn't even quit the same apps I tried it in previously. Maybe it was just coincidence after installing ShapeShifter.

Bug Report:

On 10.4.7 PPC, Shapeshifter b3 just didn't apply themes. It says the theme is applied, but it's just plain old default Aqua :(

Regarding rosetta apps quiting. It seems the problem is not Shapeshifter but FruitMenu. I recently erased my HD and resinstalled Tiger. Crashing rosetta apps only started happening after installing Fruitmenu 3.6.1. If I disable Fruitmenu, rosetta apps stop crashing, no need to kill all translated even to restore functionality..

Tried to uninstall ShapeShifter 2.4b3 to correct problem of Rosetta Apps quiting, but seem to be still having problem. SS and APE are both uninstalled. Any ideas?? 10.4.7, 1.83 Intel Core Duo

running MBP 10.4.7 intel Core Duo 1GB Ram and Titanium 8.1 applied. Having all kinds of trouble with guiTweak. When it loads it stays in the background and will not come to the front no matter wht i do. The only way to get to it is to close all my other windows. Alos, it will not allow me to select anything to make changes. It's as if the app is dead, but finder reports it as responding. Once I was able to actaully make a change but it did not apply anything. Other than that SS 2.4b4 and Ape2.0.1 are both running wonderfully.

whenever i try and download shapeshifter, it always tells me that the program cannot be ran because the software is outdated. i am condused because i am downloading the new beta version. HELP!

You are not downloading the new beta version if you see that message.

I have the Rosetta crashes but NOT ShapeShifter. But the same symptom: non-UB apps crash frequently when launched, and if I kill the process (and thanks for the tip) "translated" before launching them, they do not crash.

I'm pretty sure I have never installed the ShapeShifter beta. I do however have paranoidandroid, audiohijackpro, fontcard and silk (based on the "Unsanity Installer Receipts.plist" file).

None of these are recent installs, and the Rosetta crashes are recent.

The Rosetta crashers can happen without APE, but our initial builds of APE for Intel exacerbated the issue. If you're using APE, please upgrade to version 2.0.2, available from http://unsanity.com/haxies/ape. This build removes the exacerbation.
