Comment Spam Again: Missing MT-Blacklist
We recently upgraded to MovableType 3.3.1 because it fixed a bug that was causing the base name of an entry to get a number appended to it every time it was edited. This was very annoying. Sadly, with the upgrade, we've lost MT-Blacklist. I loved MT-Blacklist. MT-Blacklist had these features I loved:
Is there anything like MT-Blacklist that can hopefully use the wordlist we've created and tell the user that submitted the comment what word(s) were naughty so they could correct them? Right now we are using Spam Lookup but it doesn't tell the user (or us) that their comment is junked and being held for moderation. Which is really quite depressing. Spam Lookup also doesn't let me set "naughty" words if these words appear in the name or email field of the comments. Some spammers always use variations of the same name. Even worse, Spam Lookup is publishing these evil spam comments so they appear on our blog until one of us can smite the evil. I miss MT-Blacklist. The only thing I wish MT-Blacklist had (other than working with MT 3.3) was a known bad hosts lookup. Before when we have MT-Blacklist installed it took over for all the comment/trackback moderation so the SpamLookup stuff never had a chance to see if the host was an evil possessed zombie back from the dead (running Windows) for revenge on the Internets community on the blogosphere. Yes, we are using Blacklist Connector for MT 3.2 but that doesn't tell the user why their comment was junked, nor does it allow them to edit the comment so it isn't naughty. Even worse, it doesn't email us these comments nor does it mark how many hits the naughty words in the naughty word lists get. Trackback Pings: TrackBack URL for this entry: Related:

While I can't suggest any solution for your problem I would like to suggest you take a look at CCode and TCode to help reduce the amount of comment and trackback spam that you get. Both plug-ins work by adding a unique code to each entry that must be included for the comment or trackback to be registered in the MT system. This breaks almost all of the spam posting bots without affecting regular human visitors at all. You can check the plug-ins out at http://alogblog.com/movabletype/plugins/ccode_and_tcode_for_blocking_commenttrackback_spam_for_mt_32/ Posted by: Twist on August 29, 2006 12:34 AMI don't care. Where the fuck is my Shapeshifter for Intel? Even Ambrosia has now released their ScreenSnapz so you are looking at the jumbo place in who's who of procrastinating programmers. Real artists ship.
