Welcome back.
unsanity-logo-white.jpg

It's been a while since this blog was updated… the same stands for our products. I believe it's about time to change that — drastically.

Today, we're releasing the Leopard-compatible version of our haxie Xounds (a public beta) as well as a public beta of WindowShade X that fixes the most annoying bugs.

In the coming days, you will see the Leopard-compatible Mighty Mouse and the final releases of Xounds 2.5 and WindowShade X. Then we will focus on ironing the remaining bugs out as well as doing further R&D work.

You may notice that our site and products branding changes over time — we are doing the rebranding and the new website is half-way ready, but it's on the low priority as we'd like to focus on products first. Above is our new logo, and all of our haxie updates will have new icons to match the updated, simpler look.

We are already doing some research on the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard to make our most popular haxies supported, as well as bring you something new.

Either way, thanks for staying around with us through all these years — it's your support that helps us going and motivates us to do the work. Despite the recent silence, we're full of energy and do our best to not let you down.

Yarr!

Holy crap. After years of being unable to get WindowShadeX to accept my registration code and being able to get no response at all from your support it finally works again... now that I have gotten used to not having it and am unsure if I even want it anymore.

Anyway small steps and all that. Hopefully Unsanity has gotten through whatever issues it was having and can start earning the trust of their customers back.

Thank you Twist. That's the goal. :)

Labels? Please? Pretty please?

Pretty, pretty please...with sugar on top?

Man you read my thoughts! I was just wondering about the current state of unsanity. I actually checked this blog some days ago to see if there are any updates.

Glad to have you all back.

I have not been able to "assign a shortcut key" from the preference pane since the first Leopard compatible version of WindowShade X.

Posted by: on April 17, 2009 8:40 PM

I have been a strong critic of unsanity and their inability to deliver products in a timely fashion in the past. Certainly that is not going to change overnight with one or two releases that finally do what they are advertised to do.

That having been said it is a treat to have this software working once again on my Mac. I truly hope and pray that ShapeShifter is next on the list of apps to be ported over. It is sorely missed, here and everywhere in the mac theming jungle.

It's good to see you back and all the best with the transition to Snow Leopard, too.

Posted by: Geoff on April 17, 2009 11:13 PM

Thanks for updating Windowshade and finally Xounds! I was beginning to think I would pass away before you updated it. Now I can finally update my Mac Mini to Leopard!! Thanks!!!

Roadtested Windowshade (even with Photoshop) using Spaces. MiP worked perfectly. Paid the VUF.

Hi, this is Peter, who you probably know "that customer obsessed with LabelsX." Well, I still hate the OS X labels and I hope -- nay, pray -- you get it back from the dead soon here.

wow... really? a few months befoe the new OS roll out, you just making you software compatible with the current 2 year old OS?

brilliant business move.

sorry guys, but i've learned to leave without your software and i will continue to do so. i refuse to support a software company that refuses to support their paying customers.

I'd like to echo the request for updates to Shapeshifter for Leopard compatibility.. or news if the haxie is d.o.a.

ClearDock for Leopard...please, please, please. One that works with the dock on the right or left sides as well as the bottom.

After Installing Xounds 2.5 Beta, Finder keeps on quitting when you move files or copy files to another destination. It happens every time. PLEASE!!!!

Posted by: Sadanand Kamath on April 18, 2009 11:35 PM

i am still using 10.4.11/xounds due to the compatibility, but at last! i will be abele to move to leopard with xounds!!
i love xounds more than leopard!!! many thanx for the update

"ClearDock for Leopard...please, please, please. One that works with the dock on the right or left sides as well as the bottom."

What he said. I'd happily pay $10 for this, but it has to work on the left and right sides as well as the bottom of the screen.

10.5.6 macbook air

Posted by: shin5 on April 19, 2009 10:31 AM

http://unsanity.com/products/compatibility/ states: " the latest public release of Mac OS X 10.5, which is 10.5.5." This is wrong. It's 10.5.6, so please update. Also, another vote for getting LablesX updated to work w/Leopard.

Posted by: baltwo on April 19, 2009 2:13 PM

Excellent news all around - def looking to run Shapeshifter and Mighty Mouse on (Snow-)Leopard! I hope these haxies will work into the future asI really hate many facets/elements of the Mac GUI.. too much eye candy for corporate universe...

For those of you who want Clear Dock - I suggest (and use) Mirage and it works fine for me to make the dock transparent on left or right side of screen.

I also use Kameleon to alter my GUI to something close to ShapeShifter's abilities. Not quite the same, but gets rid of the traffic lights...

It's Alive! Welcome back.

Good to see you back.
Waiting for Labels X, desperately.
Any explanation for your obstinate silence?

Finally! I thought you guys were dead... seriously... so as not to annoy you I'll make sure not to mention how vital shapeshifter was to my life and that I did pay full price for it.... oops! Sorry... I meant to think that. I WANT IT BACK, and I'll even pay a reasonable sum. I echo above statement... if you have no plans for it, please just tell us so somebody else can start developing a haxie to do this... it seems with the death of Resexcellence, and shapeshifter, theming on the mac died along with them.... We just passed Easter, hopefully this is the TRUE resurrection of UNSANITY. Strange, I haven't been here in MONTHS, and I stop by right after this post on a whim.

Posted by: Steve on April 19, 2009 11:46 PM

Nice to see you again guys. Thanks for Beta's for Leo. Mighty Mouse please and ShapeShifter desperately :)
Good job ...

Posted by: Lex on April 20, 2009 9:54 AM

Add my vote for LabelsX! Your product has been a sanity saver for fixing sloppy interface quirks from Apple. I can't stand the OSX way of labeling folders, and I can't believe they still haven't changed it back to the OS9 method.

Posted by: blue on April 22, 2009 9:14 AM

Good to see you're still alive =) I'm happy ˆ-ˆ

Posted by: Sin on April 24, 2009 11:19 AM

I associate with the previous speakers: Any word about ShapeShifter would be nice... E.g. Why is it so hard to get it running on Leopard, what priority has the porting, etc.

Posted by: Robert Lacroix on April 25, 2009 12:05 AM

LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX * LabelsX pleeeeeeeeeze!

Posted by: Charlie on April 25, 2009 1:02 PM

Great to know Team Unsanity is alive and well. Count one more guy here jonesing for Labels. Pulleeeze don't make me go back to 10.4 to get reasonable color control.

Posted by: Howard on April 25, 2009 11:32 PM

I'm still a bit miffed about the lack of updates and info, but a new version of Mighty Mouse will go a long way towards mending the hurt. I will be checking back eagerly for the promised update.

Posted by: on April 26, 2009 6:49 PM

Finally! Some signs of life! After several mails to you requesting status updates about Mighty Mouse and getting no answers (with my recent mails certainly transporting quite some frustration and pi*** feelings) I really hope to be soon able to have my favorite colored cursor again! Thanks and really really please please don't forget that I am your loyal customer and what I pay for the product (and I don't mind paying!) feeds your kids (and the dog and ...)

Posted by: Markus on April 27, 2009 11:27 PM

I too add my vote for Labels X! I deeply dislike how apple implemented labeling of folders... what a holy mess a list-view folder becomes if several files are color-coded.

I paid for Labels X once, and would pay an upgrade fee to have back!

Also, please post why it's been hard to port to Leopard?

I am a devout fan and user of WindowshadeX, having made many 'donations'/payments to Unsanity for their very important work. I would really like to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but understand I will lose Windowshade compatibility. Please make a compatible version with 10.6. Thank you!

Posted by: Paul N on August 31, 2009 1:26 AM

So much for the change this entry states. Unsanity, where are you guys??? I would really love Snow Leopard versions of WindowShade and FruitMenu!!!!

Posted by: contempt on September 29, 2009 12:26 PM

14 Aug 2009 & iPhone? *Something* about Snow Leopard and whether you're working on something/anything for it or not would be welcome. Fruitmenu, Xounds, WindowshadeX, etc., etc. Are we (who paid for them) asking too much?

Posted by: rocketmouse on October 3, 2009 2:46 PM

Don't hold your breathe waiting for Unsanity to make their products compatible with Snow Leopard. It took them two years to (finally!) get some of them to work with Leopard. I have paid for the company's products in the past, but I never received one reply to inquiries about Leopard compatibility. Instead, its Web site ran a long customer-unfriendly message that basically said to quit bugging them. I gave up on Unsanity several months ago when it became obvious that it did not give a hoot in hell about its (paying) customers. Its owners apparently do not even believe in the dignity of a response to e-mails sent to them. Very, very poor customer service. I wasted $ on products that they seemingly had next to zero interest in upgrading. This is a company that will have to earn my business (and trust) back.

Posted by: spj on November 2, 2009 3:49 PM

Hope that WindowShade and Xsounds work does not fight with SnowyLeopard and my iMac 3.06.

Waiting for FruitMenue to work with SnowLeopard.

Please: if it does i will pay for an upgrade.

Posted by: Walter on December 5, 2009 5:58 PM

Will you ever make Shapeshifter compatible with Leopard and Snow Leopard systems? I loved it when It was on Tiger, I owned a copy but alas had to upgrade to the intel chip based Snow Leopard recently.

As such I would love to know when this will happen.

WindowShadeX beta1 - still doesn't even install on my system, which is this:

Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per core): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per processor): 8 MB
Memory: 16 GB
Processor Interconnect Speed: 5.86 GT/s
Boot ROM Version: MP41.0081.B04

I get, "Unsanity installer quit unexpectedly" - I sent the debug info via the complaint box when it quit.

Hope you guys get this fixed!

Is it technically possible for Labels X to be updated to work on Snow Leopard? and if so, does Unsanity intend to update it it?

Posted by: Curious George on January 13, 2010 2:34 PM

Hi, I'm not able to install the beta WindowShade on Snow Leopard 10.6.2. When I double click the installer file, it crashes and wont install. Can you send info on why this might be happening? Ive got to have Windowshade for my new Mac I cant function without it! thanks!

Posted by: Jen on February 2, 2010 9:55 PM

WTF people. i download the beta. and the installer crashes. what a total piece of shit this is.

Posted by: Barbie on February 22, 2010 12:24 PM

My question is why do we all even bother with these guys with the crappy customer service they provide, I bought and paid for a full version of xounds that didn't even work very long as I unknowingly upgraded to 10.6 and then when they do upgrade it they disable the key that I paid for because they actually had to work to provide an update. I won't purchase another piece of software from this company as they don't deserve my hard earned money with the way the economy is, I say we boycott them until they can provide the service and respect that we deserve, I would rather do without.

Posted by: Does It Matter on April 26, 2010 2:59 PM

I like that you are releasing beta versions of your software to work out the bugs. Letting the general public use and test your software before releasing the final versions is very smart and can help to ensure that your hard work as a group won't fail you.Everybody would rather be in a neverfail group than be thrown into the group of people that rush final products to the market that have major issues and lots of bugs.
