Unsanity Turns Five
Almost 5 years ago, on October 12, 2000, Unsanity, LLC opened its doors. We were eager to create innovative stuff, we had some very serious experience with media players on the Mac, and we had something that we thought would appeal to many: a unique music player, skinnable to the extreme, with a visualization system that has still not been surpassed (even 5 years later), and the whole 'library' approach where you had the library all of your tracks and then could create playlists from it.

Later on, Apple released iTunes, and that basically killed Unsanity Echo. Interestingly, it also used the Library approach. Granted, it did it differently, and probably better than we did, and I don't know if they had any inspiration from Unsanity Echo, but still, it's an interesting point to mention. Unsanity Echo lived for a few more months, but after some time it became apparent it wasn't going to compete with iTunes.

Then we released Mint Audio, which was a lightweight player that had the same visualizations as Echo, but also had a small memory and screen real estate footprint. We still miss it, especially during these long winter nights.

Ah, a lot of stuff has happened in these years. We have updated our logo:

Old logo New logo

During these past five years, we have created quite a few products. We brought the term haxie to the scene. Some people love it, some people hate it, but the fact remains: with your feedback, we have been able to create software that helps people in their every day life. Most of it is pretty transparent, as it becomes a part of your workflow, so you don't really notice it is running until you somehow lose it.

The bottom line, we turn five on October 12. We wanted to celebrate this somehow, and say "thank you" to all of our customers. We will be giving a 50% discount on all purchases made on October 12 and October 13, 2005 if you use the coupon code UNSANITYFIVE. Note that the coupon will only work from midnight (EDT) of October 12 to the end of October 13. Use this opportunity to buy haxies you've been thinking of getting, or to present a license for our products to people you care about.

Again, thank you for all your support and contributions - we will surely try to impress you with something new in the future.

I just went to use the coupon code and it says the max number has been reached! Looks like word got out about this great deal.

Clayton: sorry, there was a slight issue with our database. This was fixed and the coupon should work now.

Maybe I'm just behind the times, but have you thought about taking Echo's visualization code and making an iTunes plug-in out of it?

I just purchased the "entire" shareware lineup--again! Unsanity is still one of my favorite software development teams and I will continue to support them for as long they keep doing what they do.

Now blowout the cake candles and P(1)-A(2)-R(3)-T(4)-Y(5) !!!

Happy birthday really! Unsanity stuff is the first thing I install after OS X...

Mazel tov! I don't consider OS X to be complete without a few of your haxies, and whenever I run into someone who is upgrading to OS X or switching to a Mac I strongly encourage them to get FruitMenu and Window Shade at the very least.

I just went to use the code and it says that "this code is no longer active" but it's supposed to be good through October 12 -13! Was this code just a trick to have us buy Unsanity products?!?
