"Digital Device" would not load. (It says, "The mod at "Digital Device" cannot be used because the guiKit file is too new to read.")
Creo que es una problema.
Posted by: on February 3, 2004 12:54 AMThe theme "Imagination" seems royally messed up on my machine. I own SS 1.1 and have yet to have any problem with any other theme. It seems as though the masks were all messed up? Anyone else having issues with this theme?
By the way, I'm a little bummed that more themers didn't participate in the contest. There are some amazing folks out there. Then again, a large chunk of them have already presenting some pretty sweet guikits outside of this.
Thanks again to all the hard workers out there.
Posted by: kcjones76 on February 3, 2004 5:55 AMGood Lord.
Almost all of the themes are absolutely hideous.
Is that all of them? Just 9?
Posted by: David on February 3, 2004 7:43 AMMy choice didn't even enter Brushed 3.5. I was hoping for many more entries. For the most part the entries are only of ShapShifter 101 quality.
Posted by: CREB on February 3, 2004 8:28 AMJust to clarify my previous comments. The folks that did submit themes deserve much props for their hard work. Eventhough us non-themers might not find them all to our liking, they is still much effort put into these guikits. I myself, have dabbled in ThemePark and all I can say is it's pretty damn difficult to come up with a unique, well-polished theme.
Bottom line, we should take Mac OS X.3 themes for granted. Unforunately, and fortunately some of the more well-known themers have really raised the bar in terms of quality.
I look forward to the next contest when hopefully themers will be allowed a little more time to put their works together.
Cheers!
Posted by: kcjones76 on February 3, 2004 9:14 AMCorrection: Bottom line, we SHOULDN'T take Mac OS X.3 themes for granted.
Posted by: kcjones76 on February 3, 2004 9:15 AMMy 2 cents: Yes, the bar has been set pretty high with some existing themes. But to reiterate, creating an original theme with all the details that entails is incredibly time consuming. Much more so than people who have not done it from start to finish ever realize.
And then there's the fun fact that after all your hard work and you think you've created a interface masterpiece, design is totally subjective. You like it, others don't.
That said, I was and am very impressed with the great stuff we had submitted to this contest in a 6 week period.
Thanks to those who participated! The next contest will be even bigger and better. :)
Posted by: brian on February 3, 2004 9:25 AMlooks great! any chance you can provide the php that allows the object to be in a different position when reloaded? I've been looking for that for ages! ;)
Posted by: neps on February 4, 2004 8:29 AMNo, no write in votes. ;)
If a particular theme was not in the contest, it was for 1 of 2 reasons. 1. It didn't fit the rules. 2. The author didn't submit it. (for whatever reason)
No worries though. There will be more contests in the future. Theming on OS X is still in it's infancy.
Posted by: brian on February 5, 2004 10:41 AMI agree.
A write-in vote would be perfect.
And it would allow people to vote to themes that authors actually spent time working on and more importantly spent time thinking things through and making the theme attractive and original.
Most of the the submitted themes are simply color changes and removing 3D effects.
Posted by: David on February 5, 2004 10:41 AMi LOVE good grey...kind of. of course digital device does it too, but i just get so excited when i see those buttons as part of the window bar. i would like to see this idea taken further...to the max! i want everything to simply be one fluid sheet of paper/layer. i want submenus to simply extend out of the (previous) menu, no overlaying. i want the menu bar to be integrated into the desktop, something laying on/in the background. fluidics, i tell you!
Good grey best win!
Why isn't there a page that links to all the entries. Maybe I'm a total dumdum and missing the link. Anyway, I found them here: http://www.unsanity.com/contest/previews/
Posted by: matt on February 15, 2004 1:31 AMOne Site Max Themes : http://www.maxthemes.com/
One theme : Rhapsodized .
No more themes needed for me , only different versions like it that might be better .
So Next Contest , make a Mac OS X Server 1.x AKA Rhapsody theme . The one trhat is better then Max's one wins :)
At least for me
I don't wanna say there don't need to be more themes , just that all these fancy themes don't impress me . But still i would love to see a good NeXT based theme , maybe a BeOS theme
( tough BeOS 'es creator is an ass who wanted to suck Apple Empty by selling them that what he should have created at Apple before quiting , Lucky Apple didn't fell for it & bought the even more overprized NeXT - or was it NeXT aquiring Apple & getting a very large Bonus )
Maybe a makeover in an System 7 theme & ofcourse Mac OS 7.6 , 8.x 9.x look ( which is also floating around somewhere in a bad reincarnation needing improvement ) would be nice too .
But all these fancy themes , not my piece of cake.
PS: Can i post a bug here ?
Anyway ;
------ ShapeShifter BugReport ------
Using ShapeShifter 1.1 on Mac OS X 10.2.8 with a localized version other then English
If i use a theme ( any ) my Finder ( & only the Finder , no other App ) suffers from being bilangual . Some Finder menu's stay in my local language , but most of em turn into default english , as also Finder related windows like Finder Preferences & go - connect to server .
Tough it was a problem in all themes , i tought it still might be something related to the themechanging & not only to ShapeShifter ( that was hard to believe for me sionce your software is that great )
So i installed ThemeChanger , resetted to default theme using ShapeShifter , turning ShapeShifter of . Then i loaded the theme using ThemeChanger . The Finder didn't cause any problems anymore . 1 as an extra surplus , the " About this Mac " window was Rhapsodized too , while in ShapeShifter it wasn't ( but i give you the advantage of doubt cause it might be only cause i still use 10.2 )
Oh yeah , FruitMenu also suffers localization problems .
I hope this info is going to be used in a usefull way
