MacUpdate ShapeShifter Category
Those great folks over at MacUpdate have added a special subcategory for ShapeShifter. So you can now track the latest released themes that are compatible with ShapeShifter. They will appear on the front page just like the other updated software as well as on their own subcategory. The subcategory is located at http://www.macupdate.com/utilities.php?sub=10 So, if you're an artist and you have a .guiKit or .dlta theme ready to rock, submit it to MacUpdate via the submission form. And if you're a user with a passion for themes, check out the category every once in a while. So um, VT, do something equally cool for us? ;) Trackback Pings: TrackBack URL for this entry: Related:

Don't count on it. VT is the pitts now. VT out, MU in. VT, you sold outon your users.... your site is slow, ad riddled, and awkward to get what we want or to the devlopers sites. Even you developers should be upset with VT, in MU you just click more info and get to the dev site. You have to go through hoops to get to the developers site on VT. myRant.end(); Posted by: jon on November 20, 2003 11:54 AMThis is really something that Unsanity should be doing... Posted by: Joe on November 21, 2003 10:34 AMI have to agree. Unsanity is really in a position here that they should start something similar to what Kaleidoscope had. The very nature of services like MacUpdate and VT makes it a terrible way of checking out themes. Themes are visual the page that provides the archive/updates of them should be visual too. Posted by: Jamie on November 21, 2003 1:13 PMMU does show previews. On the very bottom of the page (after the comments) Posted by: Rosyna on November 21, 2003 5:29 PMI'm liking ShapeShifter quite a bit. Seems stable, I like the Milk theme, should be cool when there are more themes out there (DBX would be awesome). That said, I do have a problem with all of the effore and attention that SS is getting. Seems like since the 18th that's all the Unsanity people can think/talk about and that means that my number one app/haxie (FruitMenu) and my number two (Xounds) don't get finished. Not only that but the support and feedback e-mail channels aren't getting answered, So why pay for SS and add to the stress level? Why add new product if you can't or won't support your old product? Posted by: David Barnes on November 21, 2003 8:53 PMUnsanity needs to create its own theme repository. This will create a sense of community for the theme creators and motivate them to compete with each other and create new themes, and it will make it easy for users of ShapeShifter to find new themes. Heck, why not integrate access into the ShapeShifter control panel itself? Click on "Get Themes..." or something to get a list of themes with a small preview. Click "Download" to get it into your computer. Posted by: LKM on November 22, 2003 12:52 AMI think LKM is definitely onto something. Along with the need for a Kaleidoscope-like gallery page/site down the road, some integration with the prefpane itself would be very handy. I don't think a page is quite needed YET of course. It would be nice to finally have a central location for themes, not to mention ones that are confirmed to work properly with SS. I considered going to ResExcellence and grabbing a few I like, but I'm not sure if they'll all work correctly. Anyway, I've not said it yet, nor paid for it (no job and all), but I seriously applaud the efforts of everyone who is working on SS. It's about time we had a real theming solution under OS X like Kaleidoscope, and SS even surpasses it in some aspects (the list and preview, namely). So yeah, definitely keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing where SS is taken in the future. Posted by: Michael Salbato on November 22, 2003 3:01 AMI believe that links are all that are necessary. That way those sites that have other products and categories, which they support, get seen and reviewed. Posted by: CREB on November 22, 2003 4:38 PMIt might be worth contacting one of the major cross-platform GUI customisation sites (somewhere like www.deviantart.org) to see if they'd be willing to host a theme repository for ShapeShifter... Posted by: tersono on November 23, 2003 2:35 AMUnsanity already does a lot to create a feeling of community and I think their energies would be better spent on haxies rather than managing a skin site. Posted by: chad on November 23, 2003 10:31 PMSorry to change the subject, but when are you going to release the updated version of FruitMenu for Panther? I mean, the idea of theming your mac is nice and all, but some of us need our functioning apple menu back... Posted by: Brad Brooks on November 24, 2003 3:58 AMThanks for the plug Brian. But man, I'm SOOOOOO very tired of people mentioning VT every time MacUpdate does something. What is it with people and their VT obsessions?
