i'm not ready

I'm not ready to give up bashing Apple. Okay, I agree with Slava on Mac OS X. It rocks. I was converted and loving it before Slava saw the light even. I'm convinced that OS X is headed in the right direction.

But until I get my 2 button scroll wheel mouse shipped with my new mac, I'll not give up my Apple bashing! You listening Head of the Mouse Department??!!

That's all. Have a nice day.

Digg This!

Has Apple ever shipped a two button mouse system? Don't think so... Why? Because they need to. No MacOS app (at least from Apple) required a right click. Yeah, I understand I couldn't live without a multibutton mouse but that's what the third party is for. Apple could never do some of the stuff Kensington can do and does (or the rest of the third party market)

Don't be silly ;)

While I'm personally a big fan of the scroll wheel two button mouse, remember what having a two button mouse did on Windows: lots of programs have commands that can't be accessed anywhere but the contextual menu! You'd never know they were there until you start right clicking like mad.

Now, I'd like to think Mac developers have more sense, but then again, look at some of the horrors that RealBasic has unleashed...

You haven't watched some of my clients work. Many can barely us a one button mouse. They don't use the keyboard for anything except typing. Open a window, close a window, save a file, they use the mouse and go to the menu bar for everything.

I love my two button mouse with a scroll wheel, but many of my clients just don't get it. For them a single button mouse is best.

hmm, I don't agree with the logic above. 95% of the computer using world can handle a multi-button mouse. Are we saying that mac users are less intelligent than the rest? I'd like to think the opposite is true. There will always be those who are confused by a computer. An increase in the number of buttons on their mouse is not going to change that. imho of course ;)

Joshua: what Windows things can only be accessed via context menus?

I can't live without my 2-button mouse with scroll-wheel.

Go buy a real third party mouse. Even PC users don't use the stock mice (in fact, that's the first thing I replaced on my PC).

While my multi button mouse works great for me I know windows users who never use the right click and then when they have to they start mixing up the left and right clicks. And also I think having the Mac ship with a single button mouse keeps the important options that people use out in the open rather that having to right click to find half of them. A good example of this is ephPod for windows. It's a great program for using an iPod with windows but you can't do something as simple as creating a new play list with out the right click.

I prefer to keep both my Apple Optical and Microsoft Expolorer 5 button mouse plugged in at the same time. When working or palying games I use the 5 button mouse, but for general use I prefer the comfort of the apple optical mouse. The tension of the click and overall feel of the mouse is much more pleasing when right clicking is not being used.

Brian, I think Cleo had a good point. I have always noticed that a great deal of PC users rarely if ever use the right click. Can't really make a good percentage guess (who can?). Most mice that come with PCs are absolute crap. I've noticed that dell still has the nerve to ship 2 button no scroll wheel mice. I have always bought an extra mouse no matter what computer I buy.

In an ideal world, Apple would ship 2 mice.
