Well people, I got completely frustrated with Safari timing out with this stupid 60 second timeout message whenever I try to access eSellerate sales reports and other similar db-driven pages, so this was born in about an hour -

Introducing SafariNoTimeout 1.0 - a haxie (that doesn't requires APE, btw) that sets the connection timeout in Safari to 10 minutes (or different value if you feel like doing defaults write stuff in Terminal). I find it useful for own needs, so maybe some of you will find it useful too. Who knows? ;)

Feel free to comment, but please don't ask me to fix this or that in Safari - Safari team in general and Dave do a great job on that on their own!

Umm, have you not heard about the latest Safari builds? It has had tabs for well over 2 1/2 months now.
Posted by: Surely, you are kidding...right? on April 13, 2003 12:31 PMA) I was kidding.
B) Those latest builds are not publicly distributed.
Thank you thank you thank you! It's so annoying when I'm trying to chug through my Movable Type database in power-user mode and Safari times out on me. This is perfect!
Posted by: Scottish on April 13, 2003 9:34 PMjust the thing I needed.. tried to figure out how to crack that timeout thingie - no luck of course.
On another subject: I'm viewing this page with a nice Welcome Safari User visual below the disclaimer. Gotta say my 'Safari' runs in licensed mode only and is v444 right now. Still no tabs though.
Posted by: Ton on April 14, 2003 6:58 AMGuys, CHECK SOFTWARE UPDATE.
Safari Final Beta 2 v73 has been publicly available for hours now!
Posted by: Jason Anderson on April 14, 2003 4:22 PMI presume this works with Safari 1.0? I can't think of why something so simple would be broken by a mere golden master.
Posted by: Aaron on June 23, 2003 8:49 PMThis utility is the best haxie for Safari that I have ever seen!!! thanx alot!
Posted by: DarkHope on July 18, 2003 9:47 PMthank you heaps and bunches! now I don't have to use the email option or Navigator just to get an answer back from some of the servers I use regularly! They thank you, too, since I am now not nearly so annoying by having to re-post queries. Yay!!!
Posted by: JD on October 27, 2003 11:28 PMI have used this haxie for 3 weeks and have finally deinstalled it again. It did its job, but the price was less responsiveness from Safari overall. Often twice a minute, Safari hung for up to 10 seconds. This happened during scrolling, entering text into textboxes and many other activities. Once I had removed it, everything was back to normal. My specs: Safari 1.1 (v100), OS X 10.3.1, 400 Mhz Powerbook G4. I hope that this post will help others that wonder why Safari is suddenly less responsive. Thank you.
Posted by: Peter Bichler on December 19, 2003 6:08 PMIn fact, I see no reason why this haxie would make Safari less responsive at all. It only overrides one method that is called to determine a timeout value. So I am pretty sure your problems were related to something else, Peter.
Posted by: slava on December 19, 2003 11:53 PMInstalled and works as promised. I don't notice that safari is any less responsive.
Posted by: homer jay on January 14, 2004 8:35 PMHello. After trying out countless things for 2 months, I've finally found out that SafariNoTimeout is NOT the culprit for the slowness of Safari. Rather, the problem was the "auto-fill" function, which, after having used Safari for nearly one year, made Safari become slower and slower. If you've got the same problem and your file ~/Library/Safari/Form Values is also bigger than 250KB, you might consider trashing it or turning the auto-fill function off and presto: Everything's back to normal speed again.
Posted by: Peter Bichler on February 20, 2004 4:50 PMYou say here that SafariNoTimeout does not require APE. Yet when I just ran the installer it told me that APE was installed into my Frameworks folder. So what's the deal? Is APE activated? Is the installer just a stock haxie installer?
